I just bumped into this!
Check out the <<Link (http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/peripherals/ezcanvas-turns-monitors-into-doodle-pads-209816.php)>>

Couldn't figure out if it's pressure sensitive though, otherwise Wacom Cintiq might get some competition!

That looks like a hell of a product.. and hopefully a seriously competitor for the cintiqu
i doubt it though... (kinda) if only there were some specs for it...

That is really good, but this is mindblowing (check the links)
Could this be the future of monitors, paper, books etc???

I caan see it now :D it looks very cool.. but i don't know my monitor is not that stable and i cant turn it in any angle i wan't so this would probably get annoying after a while i think.

they've been talking about this forever now. Who knows if we will ever actually see it.

The problem I see with this is how far the tip of your pen would be from the screen.
The pen would not look like it is touching the line it is drawing.

The sensors for this device are at the top. There are two. This means that the pen is probably an active broadcaster of a signal (batteries). I would guess the device calculates pen position based on the delay in timing between reception of the signal by each sensor, much the way you localize the direction of sound with your stereoaural ears. I think this triangulation should be sufficient for all positions except resolving the line of points equidistant from both sensors. You can solve that problem just be remembering where you were before. The only real problem would be with someone drawing a perfectly controlled line straight down the middle of the screen. Probably not a real issue.

In addition to batteries, this also implies that the device will not be pressure sensitive. However, the pen might be pressure sensitive and might broadcast that information to the sensors as well. If it itsn't, well it should be. Send me a check for the idea.

There will definitely be some visual parallax caused by the distance between the monitor's surface and the top of the overlay. This will be function of the overlay thickness AND the monitor's bezel. Could be significant.

Looks like a product better suited to consumer applications that to the DCC artists. The sample staged images suggest as much. That fact shouldn't be taken as a criticism either- I think it's great to get such things into the broader world. I don't think Wacom has much to fear though.

I'm not sure of the impact of this product and of its "EZ" use, but the main problem I see is... this kind of device is focused on photoshop like software ( painter even illustrator ) so... it's focused to a market that is almost owned by Apple ( ok ok nowadays there isn't a great difference between Windows ot Mac performance due to new hardware, costs, etc ) but if this product is designed mainly for Win they will lose almost all the opportunities against Wacom.

I'm still preferring my method, VESA mounting arm supporting my TFT and a wacom tablet under it on the table; I know what are u thinking now... it's not the cintiq... but... what the hell! it does the trick! xDDDDDDDDD

This looks great, I wish the pen was wireless though.

I noticed that even with a Cintiq when I tried one out... it's not far, but I guess it's either something you get used to, or you position yourself to reduce the parallax.
