I've seen this and that's literally all this is. It's just the image projected forwards. That's going to be of great use in the jungle, with your extension cable and 350 watts of overhead projector shining at you.

As the movies "Predator" and "Ghost in the Shell" showed us the uses for this law enforcement and the military are endless
I have heard rumors that research into this from the military has bee going on since the 80's.
Of course the tech presented on this article is not even close to what is needed to make this practical. For starters you need a wearable material that behaves like
low/pulse energy monitor. There is one company that I know of that is working on this. Check them out: http://www.eink.com
I would not be surprised if a working adaptive cammoflage jacket was on the field in less than 10 years.
