This might sound stupid, but what is it? How is it different to animation? Is it different to 3D animation? Traditional animation?

Stop-motion is the animation technique used for animating real inanimate objects like in claymation or shows like 'Bob the builder' hehe.

You make adjustments to the objects/models and then take a photo for each frame.

If you want to see one of the best examples of Stop Motion Animation out there, go rent or buy "The Nightmare Before Christmas" by Tim Burton.

The DVD special features should give you a good feel of how it's done.
Sadly though, its really become a lost art. :thumbsdow

Ahh... finally I understand the term. Thanks for that Jozvex and DivideByZero. So "Chicken Run" is stop-motion animation too, right? Thank-you again. :scream:

Yes it is!

For some reason I couldn't think of Chicken Run or Wallace and Gromet yesterday.
