Title: Narcissus & Echo
Name: David Revoy
Country: France
Software: Photoshop
This picture represent a modern view of the myth of Narcissus & Echo from the Metamorphoses of Ovid.
( I can't write you a fast resume cause the story is so much interresting that I could loose some important parts, you can go here to know more about (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissus_%28mythology%29) ).
I made a modern view of it, adapting some points working more the psychology of characters :
- Narcissus is in my work a traveller, he observe with passion his reflect on the glass acting as a mirror. A beautifull boy ,mysterious and deep.
- Echo is one of those thousand girls with magazine/headphones going to her work(student?) from everyday that is suddently interrested by him, but didn't know how to approach.
So, 2 world in confrontation, this kind of situation is may be not as caricatural and dramatic as the original myth but I would just put the same perfume in it and keep the relation to our century. Myth are still alive for me, and are played every days.
This picture was realised for 3D station "greek mythology" contest and receive the first prize and an award. Thanks to them. You can find here the WIP (http://www.3d-station-forum.com/forum/index.php?topic=17808.100)

David, this is beautiful.
I love your take on the myth. It's also great to see you do a piece with some modernized subject matter - It's something I should do more of.
And the texture looks great too.
I can really learn a lot from you.
Thanks for sharing,
-Brittany

Narcissus's pose feels partway between a couple poses that would convey a more concise message. He's not completely leaning into the reflection of himself, though his right arm seems tensed so as to pull himself closer to his reflection. He's not completely relaxed and lost in his reflection either, because of the tensed arm. It's hard to tell how he will move within the next few seconds, as it doesn't seem like he could sit still like that for long.
Echo looks completely natural, and the loose bag strap, the cords, all very smooth and curvy, and I feel some dissonance in the contrast with Narcissus's more stiff presence.
Perhaps it's just a subconscious suggestion, caused by the cold shoulder Narcissus is showing to Echo. I think it's easier to relate to Echo, perhaps mostly because we can see more of her face and both her eyes. Narcissus is obviously interested in only himself, so there's really only one other character to go to.
Whatever it may be it's a great piece! Grats on the contest.

I really dig this. The lightning is very well done, but what I like the most is the sense of atmosphere; Brilliantly done. congrats on first place!
Very nice painting. I see the story inside. :)
