View Full Version : Question about Attach NURBS surface
mihaohao 02-06-2003, 02:01 AM Hi
I have a question. :hmm:
How to attach two NURBS surfaces with two pairs of isoparms.
Any idea? Thanks a lot.

you can select the isoparms and then Loft.

Fisrt of all, your 2 NURBS surfaces must have the same topology (check the picture below). Then select the 2 isoparms you want to attach and make Edit NURBS>Attach surfaces. Select the option you want (usually I chose Blend mode with inser knots). That's all.

What I mean is that I want to attach two NURBS surfaces with two pairs of isoparms, not only ONE pairs.
In fact, I made a half face under NURBS modeling, when I duplicate another mirrored copy and want to attach this new half to the original half, I found there are two isoparms need to be attached.
See following picture.

See following picture, where the isoparm 1 will be attached to the isoparm 2, the isoparm 3 will be attached to the isoparm 4.

Ok so, in your case, there must be no space between the two parts, or your character would have a large nose :D . So select the 2 first isoparms and attach like i said above. Then go to Edit NURBS>Open close surface, and chose the right direction.

Sorry for missing the attachment.

Thanks, Madpear.
It works now.
Anyway, after two halves have been connected, the machine becomes much slow down.

Regarding the slowing down you experience when the surfaces become attached you may be able to speed it up again by deleting history on it (Edit/Delete by Type/History).

I know two NURBS surfaces can be attached to each other on edges with the same topology.
Is there such kind of operation for the polygon modeling?
By now, when I want to attach two polygons, the only way I can follow is that merge every border edge pair seperately. Can I use all edges in the border as a whole just like NURBS does?
Thanks.

To attach 2 polygons wich have the same topology I select all the vertices on border and merge points.

Really good point. :D
From the manual, it seems that the strategy to merge vertice are not based on topology, but based on the distance between vertices, two vertices are merged if the distance is smaller than a specified value.
So it is quite different from the NURBS's attaching surface, and may result in something I can't expect.
Anyway, it is easy to use.
Thanks

Hum no, merge point have nothing to do with the topology. When I said To attach 2 polygons wich have the same topology it is just to avoid having vertex alone
