Coming along well, Lukashi
You just need to fix up the tops of the ears - because they look a little odd.
And some of the polys on the nose look a little sharp - so round those out a little more :)
Lukashi
02-07-2003, 12:52 AM
thanks leigh :), actually im gonna delete the ears soon and rebuild them completly i wasnt look at my reference when i built them

02-17-2003, 05:36 AM
It's looking good Lukashi,
The front haunches I think are a little large, and the back legs need a fair amount of work. Also look at the paws, they look like they have a bit too much heel at the moment.
Lukashi
02-17-2003, 11:33 PM
thanks for the reply guys, heres an update..tried to add fur,
The fur looks like an oil painting of fur.... so if u guys have tips id be glad to hear them :D

02-17-2003, 11:39 PM
I might have some suggestions. What ap and version are you using? Also what fur plug are you using?
Lukashi
02-17-2003, 11:41 PM
well its 3ds max, no fur plugin...they take way too long
I made 18000 little squares with scatter and applied a opacity texture and a glociness texture
smfjersey
02-17-2003, 11:49 PM
WOW! I won't be much help. The only thing I would suggest would be to texture it the best you can without the fur. Then, put the fur on top. It tends to give the fur depth and gives it that shaded under-coat. I wish you all the best. It's looking great so far. I have a cheetah on my pallet myself. I start him next month I think.
Lukashi
02-18-2003, 05:20 AM
I decided ill just texture it and add fur at key areas instead of on the whole body...
Lukashi
02-18-2003, 04:09 PM
started texturing :) god bless you mr. texporter
ostov
02-18-2003, 04:14 PM

Really good man!! Will u animate it??
ostov
Looks good lukashi...the texturing has a great start.....

Heres another update, its taking a while but its getting there :)
Lukashi
02-18-2003, 08:42 PM
alrighteo another one...going slowly but thats ok :)
Hey Lukashi,
This is looking excellent!
This texture-start looks very promising and I can't really comment.
I'll keep my eye on this one...:)
Cheers.
Man this looks really good..(cool texturing)
but before texturing, shouldn't the head be smaller? longer neck, thinner shoulders and thinner legs, longer body?
these are all about referenge images you used but i think cheetah is a thinner animal.
Lukashi
02-19-2003, 03:40 AM
Thank you edge and emre,
Emre, heres a different angle the head is a tad smaller from this view, the shoulder and leg muscles i made purposfully large because i want it to look menacing :) (its going to eat people after all :D"rar rar rar")
Anyways please leave another post if you think the head should be scaled further down...
Adios :bounce:

GAH , i told you i would reply when you did the body! i lied!sorry man.
looks great, you know my opinion form our talk before...love the head, think the paws need work, and the arms are to big...
lets see some fuzzy feets!
:applause:
he(she) really looks strong! even lions would keep the distance with him(her).
gonna be very cool when it finishes.
which way did you do the texturing?
and will you make a mouth?
Lukashi
02-22-2003, 12:22 AM
Emre: For the texturing i just took a bunch of cylinder maps wrapping things and im texturing it in photoshop...

Hi!
i'm keeping an eye on your cheetah.i's growing day by day.:)
i really wonder how you'r gonna solve those little probs like paws and texture spot size-color problems.
Do you have any fur plugs? if not, send me a lo-res copy of model and i'll try adding fur on maya.see how it looks like.

02-23-2003, 05:33 AM
wow, the textures on the head look great!
by the way, about the fur......if you're going to have fur, why are you texturing the spots on the mesh.....do you have a method that will cause the fur be the appropriate colors in the right areas? I'd be curious to see how you will do this with opacity maps. I was looking at the "Ice Age" production book and they had a really awesome way of applying fur. They actually extruded all the edges from the mesh and applied opacity maps to the resulting surfaces. I didn't have time to read much about it, but.....well, the results obviously kicked much ass.
ah well enuff blab from me....

Risibility
02-25-2003, 05:40 AM
plz make toes on paws closer together and make the spots on his fur universally the same size and make his shoulders smaller, cheetahs have strong BACK legs for POUNCING not strong front legs for tripping. and plz add wings and rockets like creepy alex or it just will never do.
i would suggest using the size and color of the heads texturing cuz that is just beautiful...
btw im naked
Hey risibility!, :)
i think you'r right about the shoulders but,
Dude wants his cat to look very strong and huge.i asked him this before therefore i know.

Love the stretch you're getting on his flanks.
way better anim cycle
Lukashi
03-08-2003, 10:51 PM
!!! thanks!! gonna tape it!
The animation looks pretty good. I don't know much about the movement of a cheetah, but are the front legs really going between the back two legs?
Lukashi
03-08-2003, 11:10 PM
Yes i think they do, most of my pictures so far point that way at least :)
I uploaded some footage ive been using, to help make crit easier
Cheetah Reference Video (http://rendermonitor.no-ip.com/forum/download.php?id=80)
**Right click and save it, doesnt seem to work unless u do that**
Ah I see, fear my knowledge of cheetah movement ;)
Your animation looks pretty flawless, good work :)

Animation Crit:
Not bad so far. Its obvious that your F-curves are fighting each other from his Centre Of Gravity through to his neck. His head should remain steady as he runs. The best way to do the back is to make sure you have keys on the same frames for every bone along the spine to the neck, and make sure that the keyframes' slopes match as well. In rigs I do, I use set driven keys instead of trying to tweak all of those individual bones along the spine.
His back right foot needs to hold/antic more just before it connects with the ground. I like how you have the snap on the foreground foot, but the one in the back seems very floaty. I can see you are trying to offset the leg like in your reference footage. An easier way would be to keyframe both back feet at the same time, then all the keyframes back a few frames for the rear leg. That way you have the distinct coil up and a sudden burst as his foot fires back, and teh 2 legs are offset for visual appeal.
In the reference video, his front legs come forwarda and his fore-arms are completly secondary animation (From his shoulder and upper arm movement.) If you can, make your models forearms almost "loose" right up until they slap down on the ground. They should drag behind the motion of the elbow just up until they are brough back down to start another stride.
Its always hard to explain animation crit in a forum, so I hope I've offered some help that can be understood. All in all a decnt piece on animation, and I love the model.

Looking MUCH better this time around lukashi. The problems I'm seeing now are just very slight.
It looks like you have a lot of keyframes in there, and you really should go in and try and smooth things out now. The overall motion is perfect in my opinion.
On frame 30-33 his back left leg seems to stop for a few frames. I would just look in your graph editor and make the rotation on his leg smoother from 25 - 38. Scrub the time slider back and forth a few times until you can see a perfectly smooth arc the entire time his foot has contact with the ground.
I've sped your animation up to "Real time" in premiere to see how it looks. Other than the foot thing I mentioned, its spot on. Put in some motion blur and consider it done.
Nice work...!
