Hello,

I have a question regarding jet engine exhaust. I am in the process of creating a realistic jet engine exhaust with initial glow startup followed by a burst of flames. Thinking maybe fluids is the answer. Any suggestions on techniques would be appreciated.

Thanks,

KC

I never got that far to actually give it a go because I got caught doing other effects but if you manage to do it, please let us know.

static fluid with a cone falloff. Animate the texture origin and parent the sucker to the jet. It's by far the best solution I've come across for this thing. You'll probably want to do a bit of particles to use as a displacement matte

BldRnr,

The engine effect turned out preety good. I decided to keep it simple yet effective with the help of Shake. I created a nurbs cylinder the size of the hole where the flames exit the engine. Animate the scale in z. Applied a ramp textute to the incandescence. Applied a projection fractal map to the color channel of the ramp texture. Animated the texture node in z to get a smokey flame effect. I added glow, blur, transparency and displacement in Shake. I then created sparks emitting from the engine for an added effect. This effect was not for a jet airplane, but was for a jet engine part of an animated open for a PayPerView. If you want, I could send you a low res example of the animation with the effect.

Hi kcall, I first want to thank you for your reply. I have to admit I am a liittle confused as to how you got things to run. Maybe a visual post would be a great help as you said. A hypergraph screen capture of the hierarchy??? I leave that up to you. I don't have access to Shake, do you think the effect could be done within the confines of Maya ?
I would appreciate seeing your animation. Once again thanks for your time.
