The only thing I use my floppy for is when I need to boot to startup disks.... but.... that's a big deal. If I can reliably use a usb memory stick as a boot then then fine, I'm all for... if not... I'll keep my floppy.

Nice. I could use a 1 GB usb drive :)
But we still use floppies at the school I attend to transfer data. We only got USB capable computers this year!

at home i have 5 pcs without a floppy and a laptop which is the only pc who got a floppy cause it was built in when i bought it =)
no need for a floppy just raises the cost upwards

the only thing that I ever use my floppy for was a boot disk for memtest and a backup for Quicken. I am sure that I could easily make a boot for memtest from a cd, and backup Quicken to a USB thing. P.S. I have 7 usb ports on my comp, only two are free.

i've got 4 usb ports on my laptop and it sure isn't a dell. after 7 of them, i think i've had my fill of crap.
i sort of am glad to hear about the passing of the floppy though. any media that depends on moving parts (floppy, big floppy, cassette tapes, video tapes, etc...) just suck.

I'm a pc-only user and I've been floppy-drive-free for over 4 years.

nah, it's just, well... how can i explain this... when you get older, i mean, really older... well. certain things that used to work just don't so readily anymore, i mean to say... the spirit is wiling but the flesh is weak... and.. i guess you know a year in computing is a very long time, so i think it's about time that dell felt this pinch (whomever dell is), so maybe the time has come to bite back the pride and go and order some viagra... anyhow, i asume that's what this thread is about right?
actually, on the true note of the thread. i'm amazed that the floppy has lasted this long. at the very least zip should have superceeded it a long time ago, any now it's getting hard to find just a cd rom drive, you can only get cd-rw's. and now especially as cd's are so cheap it makes no sense to keep on the floppy. i just wish that manufacturers would make it easier to make bootable cd's instead of it seems trying to make that much harder for piracy prevention or something.:hmm:
