I wonder what fraction of an Opteron $700 could buy.
But yeah, dual 3.06Ghz xeons. That would rock my desktop quite nicely :thumbsup:

from what I hear, Opterons will be priced to compete with xeon's, either at price or lower.

The 2.8 xeons can be had for under $500 and the difference in speed is really negilible so....why pay $200 more for only a 9.2 % increase in speed.
Intel roadmaps (if I remember correctly) have several more Xeons coming out this year with processor speeds of (and again this is relying on my faulty memory) 3.6 and greater. this will of course drive prices on older Xeons down, making them more affordable.
I'm running with dual 2.8 right now (see sig for details) and it is silly fast, sure I could use more speed, but my bank account needs some serious recovery time before I do anything else.
Also remember that these are all 604-pin Xeons which require a new motherboard unless you already have a MB based on the 7505 Intel chipset.
