Title: Ecos
Name: Mike Kime
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop

Ecos is a humble character that has a mobile on his head that spins, altering the time of day for the 2 cities. The city on the left is in medieval times and the one on the right is in futuristic times with flying cars etc..

I drew several side head shots in pencil and then picked one and started rendering. The piece evolved over time and really took off (for me) when i decided to do the night/day theme. I tend to get in close and detail things out, which I did on this one.

Any critique is good. Especially first impression on what reads. Did you get that the mobile spins? Is the atmosphere readable, as in can you see how it is in space (sort of a 45 degree angle)?

The painting was done in Photoshop CS.
The coin is a Dime
At one point i thought about painting in a small 2 string bass guitar (of a funky primitive nature) that he plays for the small cities. I still think it would be cool to do the whole thing up in 3d and play an animation of him playing the bass and the time spining as the camera spins around him as well.

Very interesting concept. Technically, I think you've done a really good job with the two light sources (day and night), as the lighting and texturing is really strong. I wouldn't have gotten the whole "mobile" idea, mainly because the head appears to be attached to a body that would prevent it from turning on an axis like that. The cities do have quite different qualities though, looking futuristic and medieval. I really like the background colours as well. Nice work!
