View Full Version : Good water?
Im about to make a picture of a bathhouse, which for natural reasons contain a lot of water. water on the floor in little splashes, and water in the pool.
Ive only done water for small things before, so i thought it might be interesting to get your opinions on how to make it the best way.
Cause i know, once i ask i always have to change the way i did it from the start :)
(which by the way is a good thing) (cgtalk rocks!!)

Do you mean physics, shape and texturing of water? There's a lot to cover there!
Andy murdock does a cool water tute on his Lots of Robots DVD.

As always suggested..there's also Realflow. But it might be too much overkill for something like that. Something like metaballs would be one of the least costly and quickest ways.
I think we could let go of the physics for now.
I know its a lot to cover, thats why i hought it would make an interesting question. :)
Then there is light and water, which is also a subject by itself.
Im looking for the philosophy of water if there is such a thing.
Some days, the ocean is black,
other days the very same ocean is clearblue, like a breathmint.
If i knew some kind of why, i would also be closer to some kind of how.
Sounds sort of like poetry ;)

there was a guy in some forum.. on 3d total.. or here dont know..
who was building a water shader.. had a lot of test images .. like oceans rivers etc..with light and underwater scenes etc..it looked so real..but dont know where the images or posts are or whatever..:(..damn
but..uhm.. i should go with realflow if i where you..
i think its.. photorealistic..or nearly..its just ..about playing with the settings..and look up all the relection stuff in documentary..thats found on the web about bouncing light etc
Ill check out realflow then. is there a demo somewhere?
