View Full Version : 3d chess board
pureprplaya 02-05-2003, 03:24 PM I used some max tuts and modified thems lightly and here is the chess board I came up with...
I used the 3ds max with Phoenix plug in
every chess piece, the board and the wood trimming (fire emitter) has reflections and refractions, It took about 12 minutes to render...)
comments and suggestions are welcome.

If you're new to CG then good job! We expect you to get much better though :) You modeled the chess pieces nicely but they seemed fairly low res to me. And honestly, the fire looks cheesy :) The nebula map you used in the background is mapped kinda oddly. Did you do this because you wanted to? For a project or something? Or did you just randomly do it? No matter. Keep plugin along. If I were you I would keep this image the way it is and move on to something new. Maybe something with more purpose or meaning. Great job though, you will do well.

Thanks for your insight. I never play chess I dont know why i modeled it... Last night I started to model an imaginary concept of what the next nintendo system will look like... no pictures today I left the zip drive at home and didnt bring it to work with me.

Suggestions?
Ok, lose everything except the board and the pieces and most of the reflection.
The pawns look melted on the bottom.
Man something just moved in my stomach.:argh:

... right FO right now with everyone posting there own chessboards otherwise this is going to turn into a ****ing free for all.
.
For starters, lose the smoothing on the knights, these guys deserve your respect since they're the hardest on the board, spend the time modelling them, for a start they should have ears, and nostrils.
Chessboards are also a great way to kick off learning CG, not just modelling but reflections and shadows, but the knights should keep you busy for a while :)
