Hi, im running Maya 7.0 and have an object (TV) it's all one mesh, But i need a light to shine through the screen?? I know if the screen was seperate I could achieve this with light linking but the TV is rigged for squash and stretch etc so could i exclude polygons from light?

Could you use the hypershade and create a spotlight that is only attached to the case surface and not the screen? Or maybe a transparency map, but Im not sure how that would work as the screen squashes and stretches with the telly?

Cheers

You should be able to apply different shaders to Poly faces, but if you UV map you TV you could create a PSD Texture and apply your transparency that way as well. My best suggestion would be the PSD Texture that way you can apply all your detail and put a gradient transparency on the screen. Both ways will not be affected by the squash and stretch.
