Hello,

I'm planning on buying a new computer pretty soon, and I've decided on the A7N8X mobo, together with an AMD 2700 or 2600 (the one with the 333MHz FSB).

I have some questions about this setup:

1. Would I have to buy 3200 ram for this mobo and CPU so the memory runs in sync with the CPU?

2. On installling the CPU heatsink, I saw a video on AMD's site saying that you should use thermal pads for production systems, and thermal grease only for testing purposes as the grease may disperse over time. Do heatsinks come with a thermalpad already in place or it depends? Should I use it if it comes with it already attached or should I use grease instead?

3. What heatsink/fan do you recommend? Looking most of all for a quiet one.

Thanks:)

As long as the processor you purchase is in it's origional (sealed) box it will come with a thermal pad. Any memory that's compatible with the board will run with the processor, however, memory that's super fast and a slow processor is a waste of money, and super slow memory with a blazing processor will dissapoint your need for speed. I'm not sure what speed memory will work best with the 2700, I would recommend looking for a gamer's review site with a computer running the same processor and see what the reviewer used for memory.

Installing the CPU is actually very simple, just read the supplied directions. Basically the processor drops right into the socket on the mainboard (without any effort at all, gravity will do all the work) Clamp it down with the little lever. The thermal pad will be attached to the heat sink prior to placing it on the processor, you just need to check to be sure all four rubber pads are on the processor, place the heat sink on (making sure the thermal pad is touching the processor) clip it down with your screwdriver and viola. The only tip I have is that everything should be easier than you expect. Nothing should require any force (excluding the heat sink clip.)

I am very happy with this motherboard (the A7N8X deluxe) and though it was more expensive than some other ones, I don't need to get a firewire port, 6 USB ports means I don't need a USB hub, 2 integrated networking cards means I can share my net connection without an expensive router, the nforce sound is lovely and I'm not actually using any of my PCI devices. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I am enjoying mine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply

So the thermal pad comes with the processor, and I have to attach it to the heatsink? When you say original sealed box, does that also include OEM processors?
Sorry for the silly questions, this will be the first system I build, so.....:)

I've got an a7n8x too :D! Its great, and I'm sure that you're going to like it :).

As for the heatsink, they only come on retail chips, not OEM ones. So, if you want to heatsink and thermalpad and stuff, you're going to have to get the retail one :). If you don't know about it already, check out http://www.newegg.com , I bought a 2400 a month or so ago from there and it worked out great!
