Ok there is a whole story to this guy and the subsequent characters that I will make after he is complete. If you are interested at all then I will post a brief version. I am building a demo-esque project that I hopefully will finish and have ready in the next couple months to land me a job. As far as this one goes I have re-taught myself Maya and now teaching myself ZBrush. This is my first pass at the upper torso of my character Acacius. It is in no way near completion and I step back and work on seperate parts so as to not go crazy over little details too soon. I am utterly OPEN to C&C since I am am basically re-teaching myself since I left school and any and all help is greatly appreciated.

This is probably the third version of Acacius outfit. Yeah yeah I know.... buckles huh?!?! lol. Any suggestion on clothing materials or design tweaks? (I'm not a fashion major) I was thinking burlap-ish or canvas type coarse material is accessible to him for the setting of the story.

Will tweak this and finish it up and then refine my normal map / texturing skills.


Upcoming updates:
Complete the torso / Redo hands / Lower half start and finish modeling / texture / and if I have time I want to learn to rig it.

What he said. They look too big and you're probably going to need to pull the armpit area in more. Right now the arms get wider all the way up when anatomically, they should narrow a little bit above the bicep/tricep. Geometrically, it should make the arm deform better, too. The clothing, I think, also needs a lot of work. I'm also no fashion designer, but you've got an amazing amount of photo reference with the internet. Look at photos, look at other peoples' drawings, pick and choose what you like. In addition, try to pick a theme and try to stay within that theme. Weigh whether each clothing element makes sense for the character and then, if they make sense all together.

Promising start. Your model is looking pretty good!

Thank you guys for the C&C. About the arms... Ha ha yeah i figured it was a bit too bulky near the deltoid/bicep area. I'll fix that and the armpit area right now. As far as "too big" goes is it just these areas or are you talking about length as well? :) As far as the fit goes, it does tie in with the "era theme" that I am aiming at... sort of. I have a folder of hundreds of reference photos I shot and from google.images. Any specific ideas on what to change? My only advice and criticism comes from my family and girlfriend... HA HA can't get them to be completely honest. Once again thanks. I'll post new pics later today.
