koon69 02-05-2003, 03:37 AM Im thinking of cross grading into C4D or LW. What are the pros and cons of each? Please - no flames! :-) Just some insight from the guys and gals in the trenches.

Honestly, try a forum search. I'm sure you'll come up with over 100 posts on this topic.

Without reading a short novel, the best way to find out about what app suits your needs is to download both demos and try them out.

try out the demos for both packages, you can download the r8 demo from maxons website, and lightwave discovery edition is on the covoer of either 3dworld, or computer arts this month. i can't remember which.
personally speaking pro's and cons.
c4d, very easy to use, non destructive modelling processes, fast and very high quality render engine. new great animation tools in v8. very quick and easy ot pick up. node based expression system, clean interface very customiseable with the option to have text based GUI like lightwave or Icon based like maya, or a combo, like max. good solid poly modelling toolset.
lightwave, steep learning curve, lovely modelling tools, hypervoxels one of the best volumetric rendering options i've seen. amazing render quality but not the fastest render engine. lightwave is actualy two programs connected by a hub, a modeller and a layout app, not to everyones tastes. very powerful.
that's my own set of views on it, i love both apps. my main suggestions stand taht you should try them both out, see what fits you the best, and go with that :)
