View Full Version : Train Model For inspection
MoThBall 02-05-2003, 02:15 AM Had the Chance over the last few days to put this Model togeather. This will be part of project with two planes, a Bridge and a rather scenic Moutain range.
Any Tips on maybe getting the Meterials right would help i think :)

Looks like you have a good start there. A couple this that jump out:
-Your bell is just kinda hangin' out in mid air.
-The head light is not lit but there is still light coming out of it. (Try putting a luminat material on the actual glass and pull the actual light back up to it. Also try for a whiter light. Unless the glass is yellow...most trains I have seen have a whitish light.
-Only a train fresh out for a first run will have a "shiny dome thing on top" that is so shiny. It ends up looking like a light in the second picture. Try giving it a bit of soot.
-I think that DirtyNutz would really do you some good and make the model a bit less "toy" looking.
I know you asked for material help...I just could'nt hold back.

Anyway good job and keep with it!!!

Thanks VestanPance
Many things bother me. This is proably because the very little i know about cinema. Ive only got into 3D Rendering in the last 3 months. before that i was using AutoCad. So this like going from the stone age into Space age. I love every thing about this program. now i just have to find all the little tricks to get my picture looking right.
The bell i will Fix :) that was just me being inpatient to post it i think.
The light should look alot better when it is lighten up. But the yellow i chose because one of the ref pics i used had a yellow light. Hopefully i will have all these things fuigerd out by the time i actuly make the proper Picture.
thanks again, Will take the advise to the Workshop :)
Cheers, Mark

It would be nice to see clouds of snow disturbed by the speeding engine on tracks and smoke from the funnel.
This might give it speed and more mystic.
U could use particle effects for this and volumetric light. Its not that difficult just set your light up and place it as a child object in the emitter, Then scrub down the timeline till you get the smoke you want.

Yeah Smoke would look Fantastic. So would the snow movement. But i havent got a clue how to do that yet. Is there a tetorial that deals with Particles ( smoke if posible) Thanks for the Ideas. But i still have all the coaches to Build and the bridge. so I think for the mean time i will concentrate getting those done, and then Fuiger out how to make the Pic look Pro.
Cheers

One thing i think i will need for this pic to look good is Pine Trees. Any one have a small Pine tree model i can have?

I think theres some trees on deepshaders.com? I cant find the link right now but if you go to Maxons homepages and into resources theres a textures section there and link to deepshaders. the tree is set up as a texture onto a single plane with an alpha channel to cut out the leaves and twigs.
