I need to get more RAM to hold me over until I get a new system.
Unfortunatly my current system is an old Dell p3 that requires Rambus. It has one 256 MB stick, and then a fake stick (a passthrough board?) in the other ram slot.
If I buy another 256 MB stick, does it have to be exactly the same as the one that is already in there? Am I asking for trouble if I get Ram from another vendor with slightly different specifications?
I currently have a Samsung Rambus 711(?) ECC stick. If I got a Kingston Rambus 800 non-ECC stick would I be risking stablity problems?
(Incidentaly, I can attest to the fact that 256MB is not enough for Maya.)
Any sharing of knowledge on this matter is appreciated.
