Hi,

I'm thinking to buy DELL 2407WFP 24-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor for my animation use. There is -25% price off campaigne going on with DELL Finland so that's why :)

Is it good monitor for animator? I don't do much print works so I'm intrested about general use experiences. If you know something good or bad about that monitor, just tell me :)

Personally i've seen tons of complaints about that screen on Dell's forum. I wouldn't recommend it.

I have had the chance to experience both this monitor (2407) and the previous version, the 2405. I own a 2405, and I like it quite a bit. But the 2407 that we just installed in the chairman's office is not nearly as nice, IMO.

The backlighting appears to be pretty uneven (which seems to be a problem that spans all the 07 models, we have 30 or so 1907s alot of them have some issues with backlighting). Also, its harder to tell, but I feel like the viewing angles are not as broad as they are on my display at home.

Granted I've only expereinced one 2405 and one 2407, so it is difficult to say for "all" of Dell's new 2407s, but at this point, I would hesitate getting a 2407. I much prefer my 2405.

Since it would be for animation / 3D, it might be ok. Print is no-no with this display (it's S-PVA panel, and can't be calibrated as good as some other displays). Now, it might be great solutio for you, but there are various reports - some people say it's perfect, some have issues with it. Obviously there is problem with various units - you could get good one, but you could also get one with problems (ghosting, color banding etc). They all seem to have trouble with green color, but it's not something I would concern myself with in your place, since you're not going to use it for prepress / print, color critical tasks etc. I would probably recommend it to you, since screen is big and nice, and relatively cheap. However, you could look into 24" Samsung model, or 24" BenQ model (it seems that this BenQ model is the best 24" monitor at the moment, you can research it a bit). If you decide to buy Dell, you should go for the 2407 model, not 2405, and look for latest revision - I think it's Rev 2).

Thanks for replys!

It's always difficult to make decision when talking about quite big investiment. For me at least.

In finland, DELL 2407WFP is now 822euros against BenQ FP241W is 920euros. There is 100e so is it much or not? Maybe I should wait little bit and get more money and buy BenQ if it's much better than DELL. I don't know :hmm:

24" Dell review (same site):

Ok, I know you shouldn't believe anything some magazine / websites says, but they make some valid points, and this new BenQ is really praised well lately.

Personally, I don't think those 100€ are big difference, especially in 900€ investment. My vote goes to BenQ.

I own a DELL 2405WFP and can't complain about the image quality at all... I do animation and video editing. I use it with my PC (DVI), XBox (Component) and Xbox 360 (VGA) and all of them look awesome with no gosthing at all. Hope that helped...
