So last night I was modeling a hand (subd) in max 8 using the method posted in one of the above threads about modeling tutorials. I was toying with keeping a turbosmooth in the modifier stack and just turning it on and off when i wanted to see a smoothed result to make sure everything I was doing was still looking okay.

Well I noticed after one time of taking turbosmooth off I was left with a strangley smoothed model. Now there is NO reason why I think this should be happening. Anything anyone notice that might be a cause of the crazyness that is the smoothing result?

Hi J!
I think it happened to me before and someone told me that turbosmooth sometimes does that.
I would use meshsmooth while modeling and turbo for the rendering. Hope this helps :)

You extruded the fingers. By default in Max new extrusions do not get a smoothing group. You can fix that by adding them to the smoothing group that everything else is in (most likely 1)

This is not an error or a problem with Turbosmooth.

interesting fix. I did not extrude the fingers but did the thumb. I'll have to fix this after work - thanks!
