View Full Version : SoloButton equivalent in R10?
Newstream 10-18-2006, 12:13 PM Hi,
Is there some equivalent to Yoshiaki Imaizumi's SoloButton plugin in (http://home7.highway.ne.jp/winter-m/plugin.html) R-10? I other words: the ability to quickly hide / reveal stuff in dense scenes and concentrate on one object for comfortable workflow. I find this plugin indispensable.
Cheers / Alex

Why dont you just use the already existing solo button plugin? It works in r10 for me

I would recommend using the layer system in R10 if you upgrade as this improves the concept of isolating objects from complex scenes.
My next question is can the layer system have an material assignment that overrides the object's material assignment?
What this would accomplish then is a kind of mask texture for rendering layers in a material such as "all white" as an example for checking lighting distribution etc.

I would recommend using the layer system in R10 if you upgrade as this improves the concept of isolating objects from complex scenes.
The Layer system is no doubt a welcome addition but using it to solo out an object in cluttered scenes requires a certain amount of time and organization of objects to layers to be truly useful. With the solobutton plugin, you can solo out any object of you choosing without any preparation whatsoever and *bang* your set to go. Can R10 do that?

I was hoping that we'd be able to solo things with the layer system or the filters, but unfortunately (containing myself here) these features only work when everything in the scene is unfolded.
I guess I'll be looking at this solobutton plugin too.

well that won't affect if you need soloing int he editor ;) but yes not a smart way it handles the OM.

Just want to add that I find the Solo plug-in one of the most essential tools for working in an arch Viz scene.
I used to quickly copy and paste an object into a new document to quickly isolate, then edit it.
This was a nuisance if any textures were involved because I'd then have to save the temporarydocument if I wanted to render with textures, but Solo is so useful, I am surprised it has not been brought into the main app.
Very relieved to know it will still work in R10.
Cheers,
D.

The only thing I might do is redo the SoloButton icons by giving them that nice new R10 look. Right now they stand out a bit awkwardly, especially if you're using the new cool dark look of R10.
I checked the authors page to see if I was breaching any rules in doing so but couldn't find anything so I presume it's ok (at least for personal use...)
I'm curious if you plugin developers out there mind if users tweak the icons to better suit a certain scheme or look. Is it: "No probs, do what you like" ....or.... "Oh no you dont !"
