I recently hooked up my new monitor to my computer using the dvi cable. Problem is, the monitor doesn't seem to be picking up or anything and I get this little notice on my screen that says "avi not connected". (I have a Dell 20in.) I shouldn't have to hook both in, do I? I thought I could just use my dvi cable to get digital viewing.

I don't know if this makes a difference, but my Boxx came with a connector piece that you attach the avi cable to and you can put it in the little white dvi connection on the computer, it doens't have a regular blue avi connection right on the computer like what you'd usually see on computers.

I hope that makes sense and someone can help me.

The dell monitor needs to be put on the right input. I assume you used to have the VGA cable pluged into it? This is input 1 on the display. If you select Input 2 (DVI) via the menu controls, you should see your computer just fine. You dont need both VGA and DVI pluged in at the same time.

Also, avi is a file format :P VGA (which it sounds like you are talking about, usually has a blue connector) is what the analog format is more commonly known as.. Though it has many names :) HD15, RGB, analog... etc..

Oh, my bad, lol. VGA was correct. On the menu controlls were I can change the input, is that located right on the monitor? (one of the monitor buttons?) or do I have to find it on my desktop?
