OK, this character was modeled as I was following the directions and techniques in Paul Steed's book Modeling a Character in 3DS Max while using my own character design. Oh, I was also doing this in Maya. Let me tell ya, there is no "Turn" function in Maya, you have to cut the face.

It's amazing, I've done more NURBS modeling than poly because I've been focusing on animation, and I never realized how difficult poly modeling is, especially low poly.

Anyhow, 1577 triangles in about 24 hours of modeling.

Please let me know what you think and I'll be posting the textured version in a day or a week, I'm not sure. Oh, she has shoes...

Hey Boomrat,there is a turn function in Maya.It's not called "turn" though. Under the "edit polygons" menu there's an option called "Flip triangle edge". Thats the one you're after.
