Bit late in the day to start this,

but I have been thinking about it for a while(didn`t think I could do it) but I`ve just thought up a bit of a cheat in the Fx so I`m going to give it a bash.

So heres the plan

Victim walks into room to see`Loc Nar` floating, he aproaches curious and puts out his hand..
as he touches it Loc Nar explodes with light and (this is the cheat)victim freezes and starts to dissolve

So I figure a frozen victim is much easier to dissolve than one who moves(dont tell me if Im wrong,Im happy with my ignorance)

here are some test clips

http://www.angelfire.com/tv2/lightfreeze/

bandwidth issues with Angelfire

heres another location for the DivX (right click and save localy) (http://lightfreeze.users.btopenworld.com/TheGift.avi)

any comments or tips would be much appreciated

Not sure if that would be cheating - it would make roto a hell of a lot easier. I was planning on having a flash too. Also I couldn't download your movies - angelfire brought up an error page.

Think Ive fixed the download problem

Thanks for telling me

If my storyboard means Im not really elligible for the challenge then thats OK as Im doing this to learn new stuff and maybe get some tips so that one day I can do it right.

Hope that is ok with everyone?

I don't see any problem with having the person freeze, in fact I think it's a good idea.

As for whether it's cheating - isn't all computer graphics cheating?

Welcome aboard, and good luck!

Cheers - Steve

Ehy... it looks promising... but, for me, this ping-pong loop on the texture is a little boring. anyway, What soft do you use por the glow-fog FX?..

LightFreeze

Im using Lightwave, the glow is a volumetric light.

I was thinking heartbeat more than ping pong but I know what you mean.
It will vary more in the final clip as the Loc Nar reacts to the victim.

thanks for all comments

well this is all much harder to do than I first thought but it is a good learning experience.

Got a clip of my actor here (http://www.angelfire.com/tv2/lightfreeze/images/actor.mov) next time Im gonna get a screen from somewhere, its still a bit rough but its as good as its gonna get as Im running out of time

because I cant model the plan now is to project this onto a rough geometry which is clipped by the projection, like so (http://www.angelfire.com/tv2/lightfreeze/images/lwscene.jpg)

but Im really struggling with tracking the actors motion(another lesson learned) any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Very cute, this is a good start.

You mentioned the loch nah floating, so why dont you put a bit if animation into the sphere to give it more realisium.? Also the beam that comes out towards his chest, why dont you make it a little more whispy.? Organic.

For a newbie (as you put it ;) ) I think you have done well. You may want to look at tidying up the matting on the character.
Good work and Im keen to see what you have done next week.

LightFreeze

thanks chico

if you mean animate the sphere so that it isnt static in the frame thats a good idea and I will try that

the beam isnt working, :) I originaly meant for it to hit with force and perhaps have some kind of rebound off the character but there were too many other things to do.

the matting is just a nightmare so Im not going back to it on this, want to spend some time on the more fun things :)

thanks for the feedback

gee thats real cool huh!

i love how fast it is! it is very dramatic with the actor screaming too!

as a preview, i think u have the makiings of a very solid shot, all that u need to do is poish it off and make sure theres as much detail as u can manage!

we got an extra week man so go for it!!!:scream:

Dramatic effect you have going there. Nice to see that you manage to finish it. I have serious doubts that i'm going to make it. We'll see.

Hey LightFreeze, I'm having trouble with your angelfire website, it says it's unavailable. If you need another spot to park your entry temporarily let me know, I've got a small bit of webspace left.

LightFreeze
03-07-2003, 10:40 PM
Thanks Arioch that would be much appreciated, I could give you the 1.5MB divX file,
Ive only got a 56k connection so that would take about 10 min to upload

what do I do?
thanks again

Arioch

Try to e-mail it to me. I think I've got enough space.

Arioch create a placeholder for his file and tell him to post the link.

when you finally get the file, just post it.

Good idea. Since I don't know the name of the file I'll rename it to lightfreeze.avi. The dummy one is up at:

EDIT: never mind I see you got it taken care of.

I was away setting up another web spot and didnt realise that I wouldnt be able to edit the challenge entry page after the deadline (doh!! to coin a phrase)

here is another source for the divX file (http://lightfreeze.users.btopenworld.com/TheGift.avi)

Thanks for your offer Arioch

learn something every day doing this stuff and its fun too :)
