View Full Version : Importing Camera from Maya to After Effects Problem
I'm not sure if this issue has been covered, but I am trying to achieve a camera move from maya 8 to AE7. All my attempts seem to fail. The camera will not import the same settings from maya 8 to AE7. Does anyone out there know how to have the imported camera from maya 8 look exactly the same in AE7. As it stands the focal length and angle of view (which are the 2 settings I need to change) are locked and cannot be unlocked, along with most of the other camera settings that are imported into AE7.
It needs to be in those 2 versions of the software. Any tutorials or links would be fantastic.
Thanks all.

There is a tutorial on Creative Cow that talks about exporting out of MAya into AE 5.5.
Sorry it's not recent but I think It may give you some tips that may help you.
It's time that somebody knowledgable did a new tutorial, maybe there's a better way to do it now?

it worked for me.
in maya use in preferences mm as working units. this works best in conjunction with AE, but really depends on the size of your models n stuff. 1mm in maya will be 1px in AE. only cameras and locators will be exported. the locators need to be named witth the word NULL or null in the name. the camera is best named as "rendering".
good luck,
