View Full Version : 7950GX2 or Quadro FX3450?
yuenyee 10-17-2006, 11:08 AM Hi! :)
I am going to get a brand new pc. The specs are:
INTEL C2D E6600 2.4GHz 64BIT 4M
ASUSP5N32-SLI PREMIUM/WIFI MOBO
CORSAIR PC667 1GB DDR2 RAM X 2
W.DIGITAL 160GB 7200RPM SATA2 HARD DISK
HEC 650W ZEPHYR
I am a heavy Maya user, not a hardcore gamer. May I know which Graphic Card should I go for? Is 7950GX2 will perform better than a Quadro FX 3450 since 7950GX2 is running at 2 GPUs? (Will upgrade the system to SLI mode later.)
Hope to get some advices fr you guys.. Thanks:thumbsup:

The choice is obvious. Gaming card drivers suck for Maya. Buy the finest Quadro you can get. Maya will be smooth and look gorgeous (antialiasing and bumpmap will work if you turn them on) and you will save a lot of driver searching and testing because menus disappear and textures get trashed.
At least that was what happened with my two NVidia gaming cards, and I'm pretty devious when it comes to this driver stuff!
School has semi-old Quadro cards and I was chuffed to find out they performed better and without flaws.
All is Aliases fault, of course. They should have better driver support than a single 2-3 years old driver.

I've only bought like 20-25 items off eBay, but it's been a 100% positive experience. Just look out for inexperienced sellers. Check number of items sold by them, their feedback AS SELLERS (not buyers), and before you bid at all: check ALL payment instructions including shipping to your country and ask ALL questions about the item in advance. Don't be cheap, bid the max you are willing to pay and you have a good chance of winning.
If you're new to eBay and don't have a couple positive feedbacks, many sellers would like you to contact them before bidding. Simple ground rules, follow them and you won't go wrong. :)
