This is a WIP of a scholar I am drawing, right now I would like to hear what y'all think about the colors and about the basic proportions of what I have so far. I want to know this things before I go on with adding more details, highlights, etc.

Please be brutally honest.

BTW - This is a pencil sketch I drew a few years ago, which I now scanned, resketched digitally and colored.

So many people seen it and ignored it... I really need some crits and comments from you!
Please, say something helpful!

Anyway, did some more work on it so here's a small update.

Hmm... i'm assuming your not going for photorealism. All i can say is that it looks very 2 dimensional. The character just seems very very flat. I'm sure u could fix that with shading and such. Good start.

right now...your character is too thick..either that or the arms are to small....fixing either of these issues will help greatly

the colours i don't mind......body is a bit thick in proportion to everything else...plus the arms are too short. The elbow bent on the arm with the book looks a bit weird...

keep trying!

Sorry for not replying sooner, but I thought it would be best if I reply by implementing your suggestions...

I changed the proportions and the body is much less thick then it was.
I also tweaked the elbow on the arm holding the book?

What do you think?
Should I tweak the proportions some more? Which way?

Thanks for the help so far, it really helps me learn and hopefully sometime far in the future, improve my skills.

The proportions are getting better. The best way to get better at drawing is to keep praticing. Draw thousands of clergymen....go nuts. Also, get your hands on an anatomy book or something so that u can have reference to actual proportions....it will help. Good luck.

another thing to do is draw from real life alot....like a real lot....and never trust your eye to begin with....you have to measure....and after a while, you can start to trust your eyes more and more....but when you first start you usualy end up drawing what you think you know and not what is actualy infront of you....

but yes...you are taking steps in the right direction:)
keep up the practice

Thanks for the tips...
I might keep this one to practice shading, but I will definetly do my next one from reference... I'll ask my girlfriend to be my model... She's been bugging me to model her in Maya, let's hope she's willing to model for less high tech and more 2Dish projects.
