I havent read the book and I am basing my idea off of what I have read from the inspiration page, probably not in full detail from what is written...just going with the first idea that hit me:)

a little progress with photoshop. What I first invisioned with this inspiration passage from the book was a combination of nature and technology. I thought it would interesting depicting the large scale structures against a dense forest, similar to the smokey mountains in the US. Probably not quite what the author intended but WTH, its fun.

I wasnt all to thrilled with my previous comp and I wanted to increase my scale values with the objects. I add some more detail as well.

Great concept so far! really like the mood youve got going here along with field of depth. Composition is nice as well; just a suggestion try moving your man/figure a bit to the left and try adjusting the two floating stations vertically so they're a little off kilter...just a suggestion though :) Best of luck in the challenge and Have Fun!!!

If you can add the same amout of detail that Prabath,Nilesh,Nemko and Nathaniel are
adding to their city scapes , you definitely have a winner

Made some more detail in the structures. I want to resize that cloud cover, the scale seems to be too big in comparison to other things, hopefully it will add more to the scale of the structures once it is reduced. Work on more later.

Thanks for the comments Nathan & brrrhmmm, im havin a good time doin this. Im still not happy with the person's position, I want to work out the details a bit more in that section and do a more complete color pass to see if that comp works well or not. The idea i have for it right now may work, it just needs a bit more detail. I kinda wanted to stick him between the 2 tree lines, so it almost is pointing at the figure. I did, however moved her around a bit as suggested and i may still, im just gonna stick with it ATM and see. Thanks and good luck to ya all!

Hey Jonathan,
wow, this is a beautiful composition, I love your colorscheme and I'm impressed to see how you achieve the feel for the scale:thumbsup: ...
a few suggestions if you don't mind...if you want to be near to the scenery described in the book you should try to show more of the cylindrical shape of this chamber, perhaps just a indication of the walls and the cap of the cylinder in the background:shrug: ...
another important detail is the plasmatube running through the chamber with it's bluish light as the only lightsource ...
Anyways, I really like what I see so far!:)
Cheers,
-sabrina

Thank you for the comments Sabrina. I agree with having the cylinder in the background, i started to put it in there and it was just getting too distracting ATM...trust me i have a layer for it
I didnt like the plasma tube thingy, or at least how intense it was. I have now brought it down and it isnt necessarilly the light source, the structure in the background will have it as well.
Your comments a very much appreciated thank you!

doing e design is a lot of fun, i can see your christmas tree is obvious then the main subject cos it attract my eye more. i think if there is other way to make it look more good is add in some admospher on tree, if you have the same think also . pardon me, good job as well. :>

Thanks for the compliments, Nathan and Rian.
-Rian, yeah I agree that the atmosphere needs to be pushed more with the structure. I have and updated version, that i will post when i get out of work
I totally agree with Sabrina about tube and the chamber shape - that was the first thing I notised missing. And it's understandible Goatrape if you don't really like them :) .
If you would add some more landscape detail on the far horisont going up, like if the whole thing is inside the cylinder and you are looking to the inside wall of it - it's suppose to be 50km in diameter.
And you could get away do not showing the tube - it just may be out of the camera view!
I like a lot your concept, looks great! Best of luck to you!
