hi..im needing to speed up my render times for one job and as ive never used net render before i have a question..

ive managed to connect both my server and my client but how the heck do i get the thing to work....the manual is very confusing when it talks about how to set up a project etc (or maybe im too stupid)..upload..download...etc etc etc...

my main work computer...the one where ive created the scenes i need to render and where the scenes are stored...is the server..and my spare computer thats going to help out is the client..is this correct?

can someone please tell me how i need to set up a file/scene properly..i would appreciate it hugely..

thanks

I had the same problem understanding how it works, the manual really doesn't helps very much, and when I got started I just went with the flow.

The basic things are:
- save your file as project, this will include all necessary things to render(textures, etc) in a folder.
- start your NR server, then your NR client.
- In your NR server create a new job, when it's created click in the job name, a new window will appear.
- upload your file and all it's textures in the upload window.
- when you have uploaded every thing go back to the jobs window and click start in the command box.
-you will see in the clients window who is working, and how are things going.

I hope this could help u

Don't know if u konw it, but is very good....... www.c4dportal.com

What I do when setting it up.
-Copy to whole Maxon Folder and the prefs to the other machine Machine "B".
(It should contain the Server and Client app).
-On B , check its IP address, open the Client.init file in a tex editor and type it as well as Name it.
-On your workstation ("A") do the same.Type the "B" IP address in the Client.init file.

- On B start the Server then the Client.
- On A start the Client.
-Open your scene in Cinema. Use "SaveProject" straight to the "User->Admin" folder on "B".
Open your browser and type the IP address of "B" followed by :8080.
in example "192.168.1.10:8080".
Go to Jobs and hit start.
The result is saved in a Result folder on "B".

hi..no matter which computer i use as my client or server...the client keeps saying it cant find the server (although the computers are connected.)...but..when i open my browser it DOES connect..but keeps asking me for a password for the 'C4D net render blah blah blah; )' ) when i type in the IP......which i havnt set...so it keeps denying me a connection?

whats wrong?

cheers

I belive the first time you start it, it will ask for a password....which by default is "maxon" all lower-case, no quotes. Try that and see if that gets you anywhere...

This is how my Client and Server.init files can look.

// Client-Settings

[ settings ]
serveraddress = 192.168.2.79
serverport = 8080
clientaddress = 0
clientport = 1800

password = maxon (can be deleted I suppose?)
clientinfo = LW-QUAD1
priority = 0

// Server-Settings

[settings]
serveraddress = 192.168.2.79
serverport = 8080
password = maxon

refreshtime = 20
timeout = 300
clearpics = 1
showalljobs = 1
browsertype = 1

// Users

[admin]
name = administrator
password =
info = no usermanagement
priority = 100

// ActiveJobs
[activejobs]

try administrator

or admin

(this is separate from any osx logins - it only applies to the NET Server)
