Time to kick in...a little late I know but meh...better late then never ;) Here's a first QUICK SKETCH (20min) of Axis City - Axis Nader ...I just want to understand the geometry first...So I layed down big, general shapes. The details in the book are little...and inconsistent...maybe you'll give me some help :)

Nice colors on this first sketch. I would hardly say you're late: There are pretry close to 3 full months left in the Challenge, and many are still wiating for their copies of the book (or to finish reading them.) Plenty of time left! You'll see people still joining with a day left bofore the deadline. (Some poeple are not really into getting feedback from others, I think.) Anyhow, I look forward to seeing where you take this. Good luck!

Thanks walrus :) I'm gonna try different angles/ perspectives these days until I'll find the right pose...I want to have the city in the picture too :) (altough in the book it says they can't see it from their perspective). And of course I still need to adjust the basic pallete...it's supposed to give an underwater feeling :)

all your elements into a movie poster the way sacha is doing. You gold work is beautiful.

some impressive details you've got there man! The building could need some more work, doesn't quite match the photorealism you have there elsewhere.. Don't worry about the EONess of your piece. You shouldn't be copying anyone elses symbols for EON - just make sure your image tells a story!

Looking good this far. It could use some darker areas to make it more dynamic.
Reminds me of one of Dylan Coles images.

woooooooweeeeeeeeeee! the neomorph priest is simply superb! very good choice of colours! n man! ur latest update blew me away!  very magical and good amount of details! i agree with Norberg .. a lil dark area touchup .. n from me .. a fog layer for more depth ... also ... the second floating city can be faded out a little to make it look more distant ...

all in all .. outstanding work! :bounce:

good luck ma friend!

Hey Suirebit,

Great sketches! And unusual  !
I really like the idea of combining them in one poster - your sketches vary from gorgeous landscapes to beautiful character work, just the combination you need for a good poster!
But you should hurry a bit! Time is just flying by!

Hey Suirebit, looks good. You've done quite a good job integrating the images into the piece. The rich colors and atmosphere lends to an eye catching work. The only thing I would do more is to make the ship a little more prominent. Bafta.

Suirebit

Nah, I know im submiting it as final, but it's not 100% final, still need adjustments, but there's no other milestone left :D

It might seems that I screwed up the atmo, but in fact i went for realism - we talk about a closed "can" with a yellowish neone in the middle, so everything should be affected by it, even the shadows (reflectivity)

I like the cyan neon more :D Meh, I think I'm close....it's still too bright for the eyes but that's how a neon should be, right? :D

This is somewhere in the 4th chamber as I imagine it crossed by Patricia and Lanier in a shuttle, close to the singularity and the neon. This is supposed to be an alien room of air-purification and recreation. I imagined it in yellow first, than in cyan. I think cyan is better...for the story too...This is supposed to be a Movie/Books Poster...or at least some marketing material.

Suirebit
01-25-2007, 10:50 PM
Help me decide please! Cyan or yellow version? Two opposite colors...which one works the best?

walrus
01-25-2007, 11:32 PM
I like the cyan version better. It says "atmosphere" more. The yellow feels less appropriate for a sky color.

Also, I don't know whether you need the Coming Soon on your final. It makes it look like it's a placeholder for some text (or painting) you're going to add alter... surely not the impression you want to give someone when viewing the final version of your piece?! :)

Good luck!

I think this is my final.

I imagined an alien and exotic landscape of the 4th chamber. Beautiful, serene, reacreative; A place where the warm land meets the cold light. A place of wonders. And of waterfalls. A chamber you won't easily forget! Wild and not fully tamed, just like....EON.

Suirebit
01-26-2007, 04:07 PM
Btw, sorry for the bad quality....full quality has 300kb at this size...and i am restricted to 150kb.

So help me decide please - bright text or dark text??!! :D

walrus
01-26-2007, 05:16 PM
I like the changes and decisions you've made. Congratulations for finishing!

As for helping you decide on bright text versus dark text, let's see: The dark letters read a lot more clearly than the light letters do. BUT... in the light version, the burst of light and the letters are the same color so that you can imagine that the light-burst is the letter 'O' as it's the same color as the text. In the second version, the lgiht burst is a different color, so it reads to me more like "E N." You could try just stiking the O in there... Or maybe you'll come up with a better solution. Good luck!

Crepuscular....the very light of this chamber could amaze one. At the heart of the complex, it's a place of meditation and purification, where the warm land meets the cold light, creating a spectacular effect; Patricia could swear she's under the moonlight if not for the uniform and brighter light spread by the neon.

The landscape is mainly composed of 3-4 islands, one more amazing than the other. More waterfalls than you can count are glowing into the cyan light creating a fantastic, misterious feeling. "It's like being in the wonderland" she said "Or the garden of Eden....abandoned by Gods a long time ago".

Once seen you cannot easily forget it. For at the heart of the complex lies the symbol of life. And of innocence. The world that can be ours if we mature ourselves.

EON- Worlds within Worlds.

I wish der are something inside the image to prove it is belong to sci-fi world.. Something mechanical or building on the mountain..

Anyway, i dunno Which scene this one should be in the EON about.

One more, i wish i can see some steps how u create the mountain.. Issit by Matte painting?

Great job.. This is one of the best in the challenge!
