Hello,
I am currently a college student and plan on being one for the next 2.5 years. Unfortunatly it's that time of year again to upgrade my desktop and for a while, I've been debating whether or not to make a rendering desktop for Maya or buy a laptop for the traveling convienence.

Basically, I am asking which laptop out there can take advantage of what Maya has to offer. (My school uses Maya 7, so I must use that too.) I know a desktop is much better than a laptop as far as animation goes, but I would much rather like the portability since I will be an intern soon and I really would like to travel, but can't since of projects and the fact that my desktop has to be wired into the wall.

So, any suggestions on what laptop would do the job efficiently?

HP (no battery problems reported so far AFAIK) has been offering great deals lately on their HP Pavillion dv9000t laptops:

Just $1100 (after $50 rebate) gets you the following:

Intel Core Duo CPU @ 1.73GHz
1GB DDR2 SDRAM
17-inch WSXGA WideScreen @ 1680x1050 resolution (it's gorgeous)
256MB nVidia GeForce Go 7600 videocard
100GB 5400 rpm SATA hard drive
DVD burner which supports dual layer discs
Intel wireless card with Bluetooth

After taxes it will be about $1200 USD.
Get another 1 gig of RAM at newegg.com for about $100 and you're good to go...

Yeah, from what I learned non-ATI/non-NVidia integrated graphics laptops are terrible doing 3D. Stay well clear of them.
