View Full Version : firegl vs quadro (tomshardware)
I read the article on tomshardware site where he compares the firegl x1 with the quadro4 980xgl.
and I'm really suprised that the quadro is still faster than the firegl.
now my question is if the quadro will also be faster in my maya 4.0, because in the benchmarks he used most 3dmax if I'm correct?
because I think atm it's a really good time to buy an ati card (9500pro), unlock it, "soft firegl" it and you will have an firegl x1 for only 200€ :)

Tomshardware is a site known for their innaccuracies, falsified reports, and down right lies. I wouldn't use it as a primary source of info, and avoid visiting the site at all costs. Here are some other websites where you can get hardware info.
www.anandtech.com
www.2cpu.com
www.maximum3d.com
www.tech-report.com
www.3dgameman.com
www.hardocp.com
www.ars-technica.com
cg sites...
www.3dluvr.com
www.xbitlabs.com
www.highend3d.com
www.digit-life.com
heatsink/cooling
www.overclockers.com
www.frostytech.com
Avoid any of the following sites and/or take all knowledge on them with a grain of salt, until otherwise verified or denied.
www.tomshardware.com
any site with a url like...
www.welovenvidia.com
www.atiisourbitch.com
www.intelrus.com
www.iwoulddiewithoutmyamd.com
etc.
thx, but the problem is I found no article comparing a new quadro against a new firegl
anyway, does anybody know which quadro I will get if I softquadro a ti4200?

The drivers will be installed for a Quadro4 700XGL.
Although, your performance won't be entirely upto par.
All of our testing has shown that 980 XGL is indeed faster than FireGL X1.
SPEC apc is probably the best thing to look at as far as an industry standard benchmark. The best answer is to do your own testing. There seems to be enough hardware differentiation with Quadro as well as better workstation software technology to keep 980 faster than X1.
Quadro FX 1000 should be a good jump faster than both of them.

good jump == 10-15% , as said by David Watts himself ;)

10-15% isn't much for a 500 USD price increase.
Quadro 750 XL $346
Quadro 900 XL $500-511
Quadro 980 XL $550
Quadro FX-1000 $1100
Quadro FX-2000 $1999
980XL looks like a good buy, with the 750XL taking the cake for the best quadro for the buck. Although MSI has a new set of Ti 4600's with dual dvi-i, their claiming something like a 2-10db decible rating...a bit less then the 70 db of the Geforce FX.
what??? my belief system is shaken... I dont really read about hardware that much...but when I do...toms hardware was just easier to go to than to search for other hardware sites... I can't believe that! I never bothered to look at the competition

HP posted Quadro FX numbers.
Wow.
