View Full Version : I can't follow up.
dickma 10-15-2006, 05:50 AM http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/education/zclassroom/rimmasson.html
The above tutorial is come from the Zclassroom of Pixologic website. Yes, Mr Francois do a very good demostration but it seems like it is a record of how he did it, with a commentor for a little explanation of what he is doing.
I found it not useful because I cannot follow up "step by step".
Can somebody explan to me "HOW" to do:
1. Making a custom Deco Brush?
2. Using a Deco Brush for Sculpting
3. Projection of Sculpting
Thanks.

I have my white flag waving.....
I am not a beginner but still don't understand what the steps that Mr Francois did. Especially the later part that how to use the Deco Brush on a mesh and the projection of how he paint the skin pores.

His steps are pretty simple if you just follow the video. You may have to rewind it a few times over and over to see exactly what he is doing.
To make the eye crease lines with the deco brush.
1. Just go into projection master with deformation chosen and then choose the deco brush from the tool menu.
2. Load an alpha like brush 41.
3. Set your stroke to drag select
4. Turn off rgb.
5. Turn on zsub
6. Turn your draw size way, way down to like 2 or 4
7. Then just click and drag on your model
8 should be good to go
as for the skin pores.
1. Drop your model to the canvas with projection master. Choose deformation.
2. Pick the single layer brush from the tool menu.
3. Load an alpha like brush 37
4. Set your stroke to spray
5. Change your stroke settings, adjust placement to something closer to 1 and flow closer to zero. Change those settings around as needed.
6. Turn off rgb
7. Use zadd and zsub and set your z intensity as needed.
8. Should be good to go.
Again its all there in the video, just keep on watching it :)

Thank you for your help. I can perform the deco brush from your steps.
I am still interested in learning how to customize the deco brush and about the skin pore drawing, from the Francois' video, it is quite different like he has a projection from the alpha, that is a customized deco brush and work as a stamp tool I think.
Can somebody explain it more?

That step is not necessary but if you really want to do it
1. Just do the last steps that I told you to do on a plane and
2. Then when you are done and you want to make an alpha out of it go to tool switch and
3. Select the MRGBZ grabber tool.
4. Then just marque select your plane on the canvas.
5. This makes an alpha of whatever you have on your canvas.
6. You can now select that alpha under the alpha panel.
7. And then with the Drag Rect stroke you can place those alphas onto your model with ease either in projection master or as a stencil.
You can use them as alphas for bump maps or to project displacement right onto your geometry.
Again its all in the video just keep watching it closely. :)

Hello Dickma,
In the area where Francois is using the Deco brush to put pores onto a sphere he has turned on Tile Texture in the Tool modifiers. :)

Here is some detailed steps I grasped from the video. ( I haven't been able to replicate the custom initial brush the way Rimmasson did but I think it would be a better wrinkle brush result if it was similar. He somehow protruded the center vertex to a steep point while still maintaining a big smooth falloff. Screenshot attached below. I did notice in the zbrush "help" under Freehand Sculpting Tools, it mentions that it is possible to pull and pinch using the Move tool. Maybe that's how he did it? Maybe I'm reading it wrong?)
1) Create a Plane3D under Tools.
2) Then press Make PolyMesh3D under Tools. (Have "Frame" on to show wireframe)
3) Click drag on Canvas to create 3d plane.
(I don't know if this matters, but the color should be different now because it was converted to a 3dPolyMesh - mine was pink opposed to gray).
4) In Edit mode pull center vertex up while holding Shift to constrain it to the z-axis.
5)Rotate to a top view (use Shift to help rotate it flat facing screen)
6)Goto Tools and select MRGBZGrabber and drag around your shape. ( the first stage of the brush will be automatically saved in the Alpha section.
7)Uncheck Edit Mode and hit Cntrl-N to clear canvas.
8)Then under Tools, select, Simple Brush and use your new Alpha (DepthGrab#) and make a horizontal line (use Line stroke).
9) Again goto Tools and select MRGBZGrabber and drag around your shape
10) Then set the Deco Brush under Tools, set it this newer Alpha brush made from the "line" and set it to DragRect stroke
11) Load your 3d model/object. Run projection master. Use Zsub, make sure RGBs are disabled and adjust DrawSize and Focal as you sculpt wrinkles n such.
Hopefully this works for you. It worked for me.
