hi all...
i m basit khan animator and compositing artist from mumbai india..

This one is for those who r facing problems due to the unavailabilty of resources...
because i had face lot of problems when i was learning lighting, as there was not much material available or any good articles on lighting.

I have seen so many 3d artist who wants to learn lighting but they r not be able to get resources to learn...

yes one would say there r books available for anyone who wants to learn, but i have seen so many peoples who cant afford one. There r peoples who r not be able to get books either due to the unavailability, as i had the same problem when i wanted to have one, i searched so many books shop but couldn't get one here in mumbai(india).

As the situation is worse here for peoples who wants to be a 3d artist. there r hardly any good institutes who can teach u anything about cg i would say. So the only option left for the students is to learn through other resources either internet or from the peoples who r already working in the industry, so its become very difficult. This is the problem i faced myself..and i have met so many who also had same complaints.

So what i did i usually used to search the net and try to find out as much material as i can get to learn lighting and through my lighting learnig process i m able to collect lots of articles and resources which helped me a lot to improve my lighting skills and now
i would like to share all these articles with u....

There r few things i would like to share with all of the peoples who r working hard to be a good lighting artist is that its not goes like u have downloaded few tutorials and after going through them u start placing the lights the way they showed u....i m not saying tutorials does not help they help a lot but the point is first u will need know ...

What is light ?
What r the main sources of light?
How its get produce?
Whether it is particles or it is a waveform?
What r shadows and how shadows created?
Whether shadows r the part which casted by the object or its only the part where light
unable to reach?
Which light cast hard shadows and which cast soft shadows?
how shadow size changes? whether its due to the angle of the source light or due to the
distance of the source light from a shadow casting obect?
How light behaves when it hit the object? whether its get absorbed or get reflected?
How different objects or materials behave with light (like what r the materials which diffuse the light and what r the objects which brightly reflect the light).
What makes the sky blue? why the sky produce more of red color when sun sets?

my point here is go out yourself and study the environment around u as much as u can
this would give u more information and knowledge which a tutorial or a book or any article
would not be able to give but my point here is not discouraging u from not to read them
they r really really helpful but along with that if u go out and study yourself this would give u
much better artist, much better observer.
take your camera with u take snaps of the real world study them but what i found negative with this tricks many a time it happens that u get a total different picture of the scene.
as sometimes the photos r too bright or the photos r too dark its due to so many factors
the overxposure setting of the camera and many more but still in my opinion its also a good
way of learning lighting through observing photographs it helps. they helped me..

And after learning the basic behaviour of light it would become much easier for u to
play around with the tools your software provide u to create a photorealistic scene and
in this case u need tutorials to get your hand dirty that how light behave in your 3d applications whether its maya, lightwave, 3ds max, softimage or any and now how can u produce a shadow u saw when u switched on the lightlamp in your room which was producing light in orangish- yellowish in color and which has a diffuser around it and it was generating 100 watts of heat energy..

so what r u waiting for go out and look out the world in your own way, the way u want

and do read the articles and tutorials which i m providing u......

so keep lighting.....
