Entering this comp without no knowledge of the story, but with all info supplied in this site is more than enough to get D idea. Anyway i'm trying to establish the link between the worlds by creating harmony, tension and depth of field...not really sure if i'm making sense hehe :)

First time to enter comp with the encouragement to do so. The idea really is to take the boredom out of my full time work hehe...
Anywayz, more than happy to see how much i develop my concepts here and more than happy to take criticism coz i don't have a clue what i'm doing...

Anyway thanks ppl.

It does make sense , but I'm sorry, you didn't really achieve those goals with your current sketch. It's really flat. I'd suggest more dynamism and depth by putting the planes more in the foreground , and in perspective.

Though, I like your idea, there's a lot of potential in that scary destructive mass.

Here is a rough sketch I made that could give you some directions to work on.

Glad to see you finished your starting idea. Looks like you've got support so....Keep up the good work i guess. But again i say. If you get caught doing this at work. You are so on your own.

Hey Mv thanks for the directional sketch you sent me... it is awesome!!! even its just a sketch i couldnt have expected such a cool reply. Anyways your thoughts on direction and Buffichar suggestions the other day work is something i had to consider after looking at my illos today... By the way your illos are very very good something for me to aim towards although i'm very rusty with photoshop paint techniques, too much graphic design work these days and less illustrating. Did you do any work for Halo by the way?
Thanks for the tips MV

Further development from my previous visual concept. I'm just getting to know the feel for the mood and colours i wanna set the scene. Although not sure of the composition yet.

Thanks guys your feedback...Although i think i worked way too much on the latest image...kinda got carried away...hehe:) but i'm finished with this idea. I can't see this going further so gonna work on something slightly different.

mv
10-15-2006, 01:40 PM
Hey, that's definitely better! one thing, try to find 2 different photos for the plane to use as base, or change the 2nd one more, cause here it looks abit too much as copy and paste :)

I can't see this going further so gonna work on something slightly

Well it can definitely go further than that and be great (lots to fix on your pic), but yes you're still at an early stage of the challenge so trying different direction in quick sketches is definitely the way to go, so you can choose which is the best way to take and spend time on.

DelBoyW
10-15-2006, 02:34 PM
Thanks MV again for the tips... its a good idea to use different planes instead of the same one i was only thinking realistically because fighter jets squadrons usually go out in the
same type of plane but i guess i can mix a few to russian planes or something. Cheers!

mv
10-15-2006, 03:13 PM
no you misunderstood me :) of course you should keep the same type of plane, just don't use the same angle of view on each of them..

COOL...MV i understand what you mean...you'll see in my next illos... i just thought i meantion why i did that in my last post thats all really. Anyways thanks again...your posts are alway productive crits, it helps alots dude!!! :)

It really does look incredible. The latest sketch really seperates the composition well, I get a real sense of distance here. My only gripe about it is that it reminds me of independance day.

TheFirstAngel

cool shot but reminds me strongly of ID 4. is that a jart invasoinship?

I told you if you kept thinkin bout independence day. You'd end up doing independence day.

The concept of imminent destruction is something that you may or may not work on. Entirely up to you. But the last illustration is alot more awesme. Maybe because you weren't thinking baout pink and blue fairies!(Side snigger):)

Anyways looking forward to the next image/ illustration. So far your concepts are looking great.

DelBoyW

Hey Guys thanks, yeah i know this was bound to happen... in a sense it does remind me of independence day when i finished it but hey!!! It just a idea concept right!! Anyway i felt the story has some relation to 'I D' I just had to get this idea out of my head!!! Next concepts will be different trust me!!! TheFirstAngel what is a jart invasion ship?? If you could show me an example would be great coz i'm curious!!! thanks ppl D:thumbsup:

TheFirstAngel
10-22-2006, 06:53 PM
well maybe i'd design one, the jarts are actually the primeevils of the book, not really much more described than able to open gates on their own, being intelligent extremely agressive and having decieded to wipe out humanity and their fellows :p nasty Jarts ^^

Well...i decided to pick a chamber and my concept sketch here is the 6th chamber. Its quite a rough sketch but there is alot of random detail in there. I'm happy with what i acheived here, i probably work on several versions of this. I hope you like it and i look forward to your comments...phew i'm tired now!! ;)

Angel,

Thanks, for telling me what a Jart invasionship is...it sounds really deadly:eek: i guess the invasionship i conjured up is one of them in the book. I like into design this ship more me thinks!!! :)

Okay then.
It looks like you are going the way of grainy pop art look. Interesting choice of texture.

So far there isn't anything i can focus on and go wow! Which i'm guessing is what you want overall. It is however a very good basis. Lots of things to look at and work on.

I don't know how on earth you're going to make it atmospheric.

Did you want to put people inthere or not?

Enough questions.

Thanks ppl always appreciate your responses...
Not sure if this illlustration style really fits the category well...just another experiment.

Angel: If i do continue to work on this idea, i'll definately add more steam as this will add some atmosphere and heighten the feel of a boatengine room of the stone (sounds awesome). Maybe add some flying boats and a jart invasionship!! hehe :D

nwiz25: Thanks for your appraisal i see what more i can do with this... goodluck with your ideas too!! :)

buffichar: What i expected a detailed crit!! I love your honesty...anyways i just went crazy on this and didn't really think of what i was drawing, and it ends up looking like pop art/manga. Well its cool anyway. I think there is too much textures and fussy detail in there to add people maybe i'll tone down and add in my next version. Thanks again look forward to your ideas!!

AK47: Thanks dude...i glad you like!!! All the best with your ideas too!!

Well...i decided to pick a chamber and my concept sketch here is the 6th chamber.

I'm glad. I've been pondering the 6th and wondering what others would come up with. I don't think many people have chosen to draw it, so have at it!

The notion of a vast landscape of machinery, but without moving parts is quite conflicted (to us, not the Stoners), so maybe you can incorporate some visual conflicts to convey that.

I'm very pleased with this detailed sketch result. Not sure which city this represents but i guess i was aiming for 'The Wald'or 'Alexandria'. Anyway, i was experimenting with the colours and composition. Also trying to get as much imformation on one page without it being confusing, I really hope i achieved that. I definately work on different variations etc. I look forward to your comments :)

Good starts so far... nice visuals.
OPne thing to keep in mind: The Wald, Alexandiaa, and the 6th chamber - and pretty much the entire book - take place inside an asteroid and inside the 50-km-wide cylindrical "universe" extending out from the asteroid. There wouldn't be any planets in view from there. It's a start... but not anything anyone would relate to 'Eon' yet. But keep going with the ideas! :)
Good luck...

definately a good attemp heading into the right direction. i agree with Walrus about the points he mentioned on the environment properties, the whole landscapes are (if i remember right) sort of Tubed, if that describes it, all built around the singularity and its plasmatube. i disagree with walrus about the visabilety of planets, there's those projection screens (built in into the windowglass) they show a daylightsky behind some kind of greenhouse in certain areas, so they could show any projection of a sky, why not a planetscape.

50 km are the given dimension of diameter, 30 km long except for the 7th chamber of course. i played around with 3d today to get the feel for the dimensions and get me some nice pov's. its huge. if you would look at the oposite side of the "wall" its barely visable, thou, axis city (where the wald is if i remember right) looks like underwater.
taking it it was alexandria, that is built like a huge valey with the same dimensions. hanging city parts, also arced architecture built very freely. the tube runs trough the center. something that might help i made on own thoughts, the plasmatube is the main lightsource running through the center that produces an almost straighttrough toplight on all environments. that should be the all over mainlightsource. the weathergenerator builds up all kinda weathers, wich should somewhere build around the center some atmospherical effects that diffuses the light partitially, wich actually can produce all kind of moods with sky feel.

the sketch so far is very nice, the composition works well as a thumbnail, try bring in a few more objets that build transitions between the levels so the sizeillusion keeps remaining. also the nearrange looks a bit empty yet :) keep up the great work, looking forward to your next sketch :wip:

:scream: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

It looks good. It looks good. It looks good!
Now before we holt production and crown you king. It's good but there are still some more things I have problems with (Hmmm hmmph) That's just because I'm mean and I like to aggrevate people.

I know there is more detail coming so i'll let you off on what goes where. The scene looks pretty cool as far as context goes, But now having read further down the thread I'm wondering how much space you're allowed to show.
But it does look sweeeeeeeeeeeeet:thumbsup:

Thanks guys all respect to your comments... really appreciate them!!!
I now kinda have direction/ideas, to all the great things you meantioned. Its all very interesting...and difficult to absorb at the same time...
I do have trouble deciding what area of Eon i wanna illustrate, focus on and i guess my sketches are kinda random, but atleast i'm starting to get the picture with the style i wanna use etc. My next illustration might be Mangaish which is my strongest and i'm comfortable with. :scream: See what i come up with. I really need to get focused on one chamber!!:wise:

Angel/Walrus - I really admire your ideas/artwork, the development process and you both have truely amazing pieces to look at. I can see one of you winning!! Its you guys that keep me going...and who sets the standards for everyone to follow ...:applause::buttrock:

Buffichar - hehe... you make me laugh...:scream: you very tough on me arent you!! Little meany u. I wanna see more YOU come up with and i pay you some respect too hehe..:)

Ernest - your right about the 6th chamber not many experimented, but i have seen some good sketches that look like the 6th. With your artistic background i think you should attempt the 6th chamber. It would suit. :)
