the character is excellent
in your 3 step you add color base + shadows and light?
Or base color only
And adjust of level and tones he is made only with brush or you use the resource in the menus - > adjust - > levels?

Thank you and congrats

Yes, on STEP3 I've added a basic shadow and light, is easier for me apply lights and shadows on first steps for play with tones.

Level and tones, are adjusted in photoshop, and later with brushes. (normally i use an overlayed layer, then i pick the color, and try to paint with that color and variations).
The same for shadows, but with a multiply mode layer.

Anyway, i try not to use black and white for apply shadows and lights (the same for basic colors). I love to test with "not typical colors"

HAIR PROCESS

Before start to paint hair, stop and look if you like color's you've chosen for hair. For me is an important step. Hair can change your charcater feeling.
I start with color base.

2nd step. Apply a darker color. I normally use black for dark hair.

Draw lines with brown/black simulating hair

http://www.nachoyague.net/stepbystep/hair3.JPG

Continue adding lines but with different colors (brighter and darker than color base).

Last step. Apply darker zones on the begginin and end of hair (i normally use a layer in multiply mode)
Then, apply a glow effect

That's the result on my character. Hair is not finished. i will apply glow and more details later
