after modeling/texturing my eye to the point where I'm happy with the look of it....I am now faced with another problem....how do I set up my eye for animation ( meaning --or to be more clear-- )......I want my eye/s to react to certain conditions....for ex....when you go for a check up and the doctor uses a light and passes it over your eyes....your eyes tend to react accordingly.....( the pupil gets smaller when the light passes and goes back to it regular size when he's done ).....there's is also a reaction that occurs to your irus....the patern kinda changes shape when the pupil grows....and returns when the pupil shrinks......and this is the effect I want to accomplish.....I know it can be done in Maya.....but I don't know how to start or whats the easiest **or efficent** way to do it.....maybe there's some way to hook it up to a locator or something.....this way I have total control over when and how they respond.....thanks...

Surface Luminance node is the answer.
Check the advanced shading network
cd on Alias wavefront website, I know there's a tutorial on how to achieve this effect on it ;)

thanks....but I already know about that....and that works only if the light passes by ( which is what I said -sorry- ).....but what I should of added is that I want "total" control over the eyes as to add emotion if needed...like when someone is frightened or surprise.....is that clearer?......I hope so..

in that case ,

i would model the iris and use set driven key to animate the pupil.

hope this helps.

GOOD NEWS!!.....I've figured it out....thanks guys.....using a method I soughta made up that works perfectly!.....if anyone is interested..( or just want to see what the hell I was talking about lol )....then I can send you the Maya scene and you can render it out and check out the network connections on how I got it working....( mind you...this is only the prototype, and still needs alot of work... )....thanks again.....
