I hardly know much 2D or 3D but I am
willing to learn.:).And what better
way than to learn from all the techniques and tutorials being submitted for the competition.Part
of the fun of reading greg bear books
is exploring the alternate multiverses accessible
via the rip in hyperspace. Here the
protoganists have parked themselves
in front of one of the doorways and hesitatingly enter it.Of course being pushed in by a killer droid helps.Any feedback is appreciated.Nasty comments
will be reported to the administrator.:)

Define "nasty comments"?

How about some constructive criticism:

I think it's hard to comment on your concept because it's messy at the moment. Try refining the image into the key storytelling elements, and repost. Then you can work up from there. This will be particularly helpful for you as a beginner, as the many talented artists here I'm sure wouldn't mind offering tips along the way.

Also, regarding the concept... From what I understand of the ideas behind Eon, killer-droids don't really suit the theme. But I could be wrong.

Hi , I never expected anyone to comment given the large number of participants.
Beginners tend to get sidelined a lot.Anyway constructive criticisms are a way up there
in terms of acceptance.By nasty i mean the things mentioned as no - nos ,profanities
,vulgarities and the sort without saying anything meaningful.I will definitely implement
your comments.Concept sketches tend to be rough.BTW are you in the challenge also?
Maybe I could also comment in exchange.Criticize as hard as you like as long it is relevant.

Don't get too discouraged if you don't get much response. Remember that a lot of the people cruising these boards are doing so at work (like me  ) and by necessity (ie. fear of the boss) we need to keep our non-work-related surfing to a minimum. I tend to quickly drop by and throw a note or two in, so it's hard to give a well thought response, but it's easy to say a quick "Wow, nice work!" to those more experienced artists.

As for me entering the comp, not a chance HAHAHA! My 'talents' are more technical in nature. I have a HUGE respect for anyone willing to give this a go though, so I encourage you to keep at it and enjoy the learning aspect of the challenge. Like anything, you need to work at it to improve, so don't let criticism mark you as a failure, it's all about improvement.

If you're interested in becoming more involved with this in a professional manner, I suggest seeking out some good training material - there's a LOT out there, and having seen some of it myself, I can say the value is fantastic.

Try http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/ and check out their analogue training DVD's. I highly recommend the "Foundation" training packages found under the 2D section in the "DVD's by category" menu. Even for a complete artistic car wreck like myself, they proved amazingly helpful.

All the best, and I'll continue to drop by and offer whatever advice my entirely unqualified self can give ;)

P.S. I like the pyramid, I have a soft spot for ancient cultural references!

Hey there and welcome to the comp!
I'm a newbie too, so we're in this together. ;P

Like moose said, notch up a more refined sketch and we can offer some more comments.
Good luck and remember to have fun!

Thanks For The Feedback.The concept
has been tightened further. The scene is
set in the corridor outside the seventh
chamber where the flaw singularity is.
While Farley looks into the distance,
Patricia is examining the flaw.Takahashi is clowning above her being suspended above by the antigravity properties of the singularity.A flaw ship is parked near to them.I will be going around criticising other people as per the competition requirements. So please comment and I will gladly reciprocate.
:).

Looking good.
Your anatomy is pretty solid. The persepctive is a little confusing to me. Who is on the ground? What is the curves thing that Farley seems to be standing on?

Hi Kmyow,

Nice one, this could be an interesting hair-do as long as you keep her pretty and sweet as what the book described her..
I like to see her on a 3/4 view..and also when you render her, dont forget to make it silky dark brown!.:)..

PS: Thanks for putting my entry on the Side by Side comparisons , but man you spelled my name wrong!:D..

It should be Raffy Encarnacion Dematawaran ..I know you did a lot of effort on posting these to almost every entrants, but I hope you can correct it!:) ..peace!

Sacha you wonder surfer you. What sharp eyes you have.
You totally spoiled the surprise.:(

I was expecting Jesus Didian to come ranting and raving how
I ripped off his fabulous truck image before wishing Jesus a Very Merry Christmas
and A Happy New Year.In case anyone is wondering the image is from Jesus Didian and definitely won't be incorporated in the final illustration without his permission.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2007 to anyone reading my thread.
