Hi. I'm new to Mental Ray...as in...just beginning to mess with its own materials and seeing how they compare to the typical Maya materials that I've used before. The problem is, I can't figure out or find out the Mental Ray equivalent of a file texture. Just when I thought I had set up the connection between my image file in the sourceimages and one of MR's texture nodes...nothing happens. I did some searching around and there was an old thread where the same issue was brought up but with no answers. I've read some things about...converting the image file to a .map? or something of the sorts.

I'm sorry if I sound really confused but I'm just used to Maya's file texture node and Mental Ray's shaders scare me a little bit...least for now. Hehe.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...as I'm working on my second film for school and need to find out these things fairly soon :)

I'm not sure I understand the problem. I use MR all the time and set up my shaders, as per normal, in the Hypershade, using the regular Maya file node. Never had any problems

Huh....looks like it worked hehe. Sorry...for some reason I thought you couldn't mix and match any of the MR shading nodes with Maya's. Thanks for your help
