hi havoc... actually when u talk about metallic logos its all together a different scenario
as comparison to real metal, as the angle of the text and the environment matters a lot or the map if any u r using in the reflection slot(choose a map which has high contrast) .

If u want to get a good metallic feel from the text point of view u just need to consider few
things..just choose metal material, color should be something middle gray or according to
your scene need with high specularity something 100-150 would do and glossiness around
80-90, then chose a falloff map in your reflection slot then chose a raytrace map in the upper slot of falloff and the last thing but not the least choose a good high contrast material in
environment slot of your raytrace material.
But there r few things u need know u have to play around with the lighting so check out the spots in your scene to place omnis so that it gets fit. the light part is also important as u get variation in the logo only with the help of correct placement of heights..
this procedure is not the only one throught which u get a good metallic logo infact there r thousand more tricks but i found this very useful when i have to create some good metallic feel through experience..
i would try to attach a 3ds max zip file for u so u can understand the scene better but i dont know whether i would be able to do that or not the file is 700kbs i would try if its get attach
