View Full Version : Angle of a child bone with resp to it's parent

Hi all,

I am really confused with the angles maya displays for a child joint. Even if the child joint is rotated with respect to the parent joint, I mean it's axis is not parallel to the parent joint, Maya displays an angle of zero for the child in the channel box. I want to get the local angle of child bones rotation axis with respect to it's parent joint's rotation axis. Is it possible to output this information to a text file for all joints in the scene ?

read the maya manual on transform & joint nodes - it will all become clear.

Joints are a special kind of node that have a seperate direction and orientation. This is so you could have, say, a shoulder, which points out on a 45 degree angle, but rotates on a 90 degree angle. Read up on Joints and the Orient Joints command in the manual.
