View Full Version : Max Preferences
eternallyprimed 02-03-2003, 08:49 PM Is there anyway to put all of max's settings back to default? What they were when I installed? I messed around with some viewport options and some preferences and I want to change it back.... and I'm not sure what I changed. Its very irritating.

well you can start off by going to file > reset.. and then if you goto Customize > Customize UI you can reset anything back in there. im' pretty sure there's a revert to startup script/button tho.

That fixed somethings.. but it didnt fix the viewport settings i messed with :\.
One of the main ones is when I rotate or change the view in a viewport the object is like a outline of a box... Its hard to position the camera where i want when it does that,

If I remember right, the solution for your problem is the key "x".
I´m not quite sure about it, but in anyway it was asimple key.
Have fun.

indeed that's the key o.
This really should be typed somewhere on the MAX box I think, with big bold letters, underlined, and using no less than three exlamationpoints. It's a feature that has driven many people insane I suspect.
I have the smallest little thing to add to ivo D's tip, you can rightclick the viewport label (ie. front, perspective, etc.) and choose Configure (the buttom'est one) to go directly to the Viewport Configure window.

Just incase anyone wants to know, it's not exactly an official method for resetting max to it's original settings.. but if max stuffs up or you want to bring max's settings back to their originals. simply close max, and delete your 3dsmax.ini. Max will recreate the 3dsmax.ini again with it's default settings. You can also delete your directx or opengl ini if the video card settings are a bit fugged.
Just thought I'd let anyone who didn't know know as it's a bit of a life saver sometimes.
