View Full Version : Test Set, looking for crits
3danim8d 02-03-2003, 07:44 PM Hi,
I'm working on this for my folio, gotta get some new work, and was hoping that you all could give me some constructive crits to improve this image. I still need to add some details like the front clips and fix the lower half of the case, it is still very low poly, but I would like to hear what you have to say.
Thanks in advance,

Hi. very nice modeling mate.
If I had to make a crit, it is only this one. The presence of triple shadows from the switches, makes them look like tri-bladed propellors.
Other than that......nothing wrong. Maybe a bump map on the box base, but you have said that you're going to fix the base.

Add some dirt to the metal, this type of tool is exposed to oil and grime. Otherwise - nice.

Its pretty boring man...Modeling is nice...but...theres nothing to it other than that. Give it some excitement. Something that tells potential clients, "Hey look at this cool piece of gear...isn't it exciting...." Then they will tell you, "Why yes, want a job?"

Dirt, oil, dust, grime, dents. But above all, scratches!! Every surface that comes in contact with another one should have scratches on a piece like this!
Basically, make it look like crap and it will look amazing!

Thanks all for the crits, I appreciate them. I'll add some scratches and scuffs and see how it looks. I was initially going for the factory new look, (as that's probably how it would be displayed in sales literature)
I'll probably use area lights for the final rendering, (don't want to use up all my time on that now) and see if that reduces the effect of the 3 spot light rig that I initially set up.
The case (base) is that hard yellow industrial plastic and is pretty smooth, except for where I'll add the scratches and dings and so forth.
Let me make the changes and I'll see what you guys think.
Thanks again,
