View Full Version : Can NET Render break apart a single frame?

Hello all,

I recently puchased a MacBook. As I'll soon be ordering R10, I was wondering if NET Render might be a good investment. Can't hurt to have 2 extra 1.83 GHz cores helping out I figure.

However, I don't do any animation. None. NET Render seems to be geared towards animation renders based on the interface (http://www.maxon.net/pages/products/modules/netrender/interface_e.html) page of the product description and various mentions of 'frames'.

So I'm wondering if it's worth the investment for still images and if it's even possible for the renderer to break apart a single frame over multiple machines. Can NET Render simply recognize the other computer as additonal threads?

Anyone know? Anyone doing it and find it worth the investment?

Thanks.

It's possible by using a tiled camera (the cam is animated to take smaller shots of the single large render). It's not a proper solution thou. You will need to reassemble the individual tiles yourself.

This is a long standing overlooked option to NET Render module that I HOPE will get addressed for 10.1, 10.5. Due the AR2.5 being quite slow with ambient occlusion and global illumination effect this will be a temporary fix.

This is a big reason I went with finalRender.

Same here, I wish this feature to be included sometime in the next revision(s). I am now spoiled with fR2, using 10 machines to render one image is truly amazing, and gives me 10x the creative license that I normally would not have had due to time restraints. Distributed rendering is by far the best way to go!!!

Distributed rendering is by far the best way to go!!!

As long as the scene is small and there is not a lot of data which has to be transported to the clients..... I rendered a FR2 scene in a distributed environment and as complexity grew the benefit of the faster render time was slowly but steadily compensated by download/exchange times.

But in general and while assmebling a complex scene a bucket renderer is hard to beat. I love XSI in that respect.

Funny to see a gaggle of render regions chasing each other and assembling the final picture.

Yesssss, would be great if AR would support that. Could also be the end of GI tile differences.
