View Full Version : Strange cropping in some modes...
Datameister 10-10-2006, 06:13 PM Hey, all. I regularly use all three of Photoshop's viewing modes (accessed by pressing F), since they all have their own advantages. However, I've recently noticed something--when I view an image in the third mode (i.e. the one with the black background), more of the image is visible than in the other modes. In other words, a small section of the bottom of the image isn't showing up in the other two modes. Anyone know why this is, and whether there's a way to correct it? Thanks.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question, but I've actually noticed the opposite. On the black background mode, my image is slightly cropped along the top edge and I'm unable to scroll up there to work on anything that is almost at the border, whereas in the other two modes, the complete image is visible.

I'm experiencing the same 'cropping' effect in the second F mode (full grey bg) in Photoshop 7 (Photoshop CS or above is OK since we can freely move the canvas about).
For mine, it's because the bottom part of the image is being covered by the Window's taskbar. Shrinking or removing the taskbar reveals the missing part. :)

In my experience with PS i have noticed differences ofc between Mac and Win systems when it comes to this feature. But I haven't come across this problem yet. Im no software engineer, however, i believe it may have something to do with how the v/card interprets the image, compounding also with different OS systems. Sometimes i have noticed that if your start bar automatically hides, that this can be a problem and this interferes with the black background setting. I don't think there is a "fix" for this, but just an understanding of why it happens, you can do things to help it work properly, but there is no setting for this.

I'm using a PC running Windows XP (home edition, service pack 2). This isn't a huge problem for me; it's seeming to be more and more intermittent. Strange.
