Hey Rens! Fantastic stuff!. Your lighting talents are amazing. I also think you made a good decision to go with a trailor on your animation reel, it works really well. Good luck my friend, I hope to see you down the line....

nice work my friend! I love the music in the lighting reel and how it sucks you in so well. Both reels have such a high production value, very proffesional! My favorite piece is the sculpty character you made come to life. Great intigration work!

Really nice animation reel, the effects are really impessive, and the look overall is really apealing by itself.

The sound is awsome and really pushes your animation reel even further.

overall very impressive stuff man, your character really comes to life and his mannerisms add some really nice touches to his personality, which comes across really well.

Your lighting reel is impressive and bringing the little clay figure to life is a nice touch.

3 pints of guiness way up man

Rens,

I really like the simplistic editing of your lighting reel. At first, the black in the middle seemed a bit odd but the more the piece moved forward, the more I enjoyed that each "clip" could stand alone as a solid example of quality lighting. Simplistic (day lighting on the character on the planet) to complex (with the moving clock)...really enjoyed it.

Sweet lighting man. Love the moon shot between the trees. Had a good trip back home?

Hi Rens, I didn't like the animations but the machine was great! Are you interested in becoming animator or a Lighting TD?

Rens, you know you became the ant farm lighting TD. You were def a good person to have hanging around the lab at the wee hours of the night. I would say you should def persue a career as a lighting TD but now I'm so sure cause your animation reel turned out really solid. I think it was a wise choice to go with the trailer approach. The yawning still cracks me up. One thing i said before leaving VFS was i wanted to see Rens mad and frustrated. Damn you, you never lost your cool, not even in term 6. don't know how you stayed so calm. anywho good luck with everything buddy. drop me a line and let me know where you end up. take care my friend

Thanks for the replies! Sorry, I've been pretty busy lately so this is a bit later than I would've liked.

J.Gaeta - Thanks! Right now there are so many things I would like to change on my animation, but it's done now. I would like to make another short film in time because it is a lot of fun. The thing is that at school you're learning how to do it at the same time so it can be chaotic at times.

p4roxysm - Thanks man. I am working on another little piece right now were I'm intergrating the guy in some live footage, I might have told you already. So many fun things to do in the world of CG!

Pumar - Ah, Guinness! Thanks for the kind words, you've definitely helped me alot in that year. Funnily enough all the effects, fire, clouds, particles, were the easiest to do, lots of tricksies!

PureMoxi - Ryan... what's happen? I was hoping that the cuts to black wouldn't be too distracting, seems to have worked for you at least! Thanks!

JBoskma - Yea the moon shot is one of my favourites as well, thanks. The trip back home was delays and cramped planes, happy happy joy joy! But I'm home now, for now... hmm, Dutch fries....

MarcosJoannes - Thanks! I'm working on an updated animation of the mechanism as well as it can be alot better. I am currently looking for lighting jobs as that's where I feel most comfortable in, however I would like to work some more with animation at some point. Could you tell me what you didn't like about the animation?

PHO 75 - Hehe, thanks. I guess I learned not to worry too much about most things anymore, definitely helps! Yea I've helped alot of people there, it's pretty fun actually, who knows, I might even end up teaching somewhere in a couple of years. I'll let you know for sure. Take care!

In addition I have put these animations on my CGPortfolio as well. It's a flash player like YouTube or Google Video. That means you can see the movies immediately in your browser, check it out:

I've also put the links up in my first post.

I like your moon shot as well as machine but other shots looks too dull when compared to them. You should make two separate reels one for animation and one for lighting so that viewers get a clear idea about your skills .but yes you have the talent there is no doubt about that.
