.
This is the path to Eden
This is the heaven's stair
Beyond the fleeting veil of glory:
This is the gate of slaughter
_
.
She is Ahsdri'ehl, ruler of the Ahn; a mythological figurehead of greed and corruption. It is told that she stands on a ruined staircase beyond the wastelands, enticing men to cross into the storm beyond. She promises wealth, power, glory—but all who follow her find nothing but their own doom.
.
I did this concept last year with acrylics, but it looked more like a Snow White takeoff and was really static and boring. So I gave it another try. I’m much, much happier with this version. It was such a challenge to paint…I wanted everything to look very chaotic without being senseless, and the figure was to be still, like the eye of a storm… it took a lot of thought to work it. The sky is the most complicated sky I’ve ever painted, and it took me ages to figure out how to get the water to look right.
Critiques are welcome!

Photoshop 7.0. Thanks for looking. :]

Hey Lauren,

Very frightening painting. Great work on the composition! I like the way you have painted the staircase and water. Nice work on the pose of the main character mysterious indeed!

That is really cool and it's a definite jump in quality from the rest of the work in your gallery for me. (not that I don't like the rest, but this is a "level up" kinda work..)

Anyway, enough of my ramblings, have some stars.

I really like this image. Great compositions; nicely balanced but not pefectly symmetrical. Her extended hand is perfect; the right mix of delicate fingers and scary claws. The spouts of water look a little like lightning to me, and creates a really interesting optical effect... since lightning strikes from the clouds would work perfectly in this image. The stairs, sky, and water are great. The only suggestion I might make would be to add some additional details to the bodice/corset (I can just imagine these crazy runic symbols curling around her body), and maybe enhance the effects in her eyes. They draw the viewer in and could convey such power. Awesome stuff!

BGHart: Thank you! :)

Madalaine: Thanks! It's meant to be frightening, heheh.

lindsayhumphries: Thank you; I'm glad everything comes together so well. I put a lot of time into painting it.

Chrissy: Thank you, Chrissy! I appreciate your support. :)

Speccy Steve: I think of this as a "level up" painting too, so I'm glad it impresses you that way. Thank you!

brady-scott: Thank you; atmosphere is always important to me.

Kelandra: Thank you so much! I'm glad you find my art inspiring. :D

EhsanD: Thank you :]

Urrgos: Thans for the in-depth comment and critique. I wanted to put some detailing on her clothing, but it just got to the point where I had to call it finished. I had to post it before I lost interest, you know?

waheednasir: Thank you; I'm so happy I kept the dramatic feel to this painting.
