So, last night my fiancée and I were chatting online. She lives several states away from me, and commented that she wished she had a magical hat that could instantly transport her to where I was. Sharing her wish, yet also spotting an artistic opportunity, I asked her what her magical hat would look like. She said it would be a dark blue wizard's hat similar to what Mickey Mouse wore in The Sorcerer's Apprentice--conical, with a flaring brim and sparkling stars and moons.

Today, I started to paint the scene in Photoshop. I took some reference photos of myself and my room as a starting point, and have been looking at other photos of her as well. I'll be posting WIP shots here. I welcome comments and constructive criticism, so fire away!

1. Blocking in the room.

I wish I had a magic hat so I didn't have to sit in traffic for an hour every morning! :)

At this stage the only crit I have is that her legs look a bit short; it might be worth double checking her proportions before you start working on her.

Now I have Randy Newman's "You Can Leave Your Hat On" going on in my head...heh...

Thanks for the observation, SouthPaw--I compared it to my reference again, and you were right! So I've fixed up the legs, and done a bit more. Do her arms look right so far?

After getting some good comments at Stahlberg's paintover thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=359226&goto=newpost), I finished up my picture.
