View Full Version : Image planes with depth
playmesumch00ns 02-03-2003, 12:15 PM I want to composite cloud-type particles on top of previously rendered geometry. I've tried loading an image with depth channel as an image plane and then rendering the particles on top, but Maya just seems to ignore the depth information. I thought this was possible as it came up to do with PRMan/PaintFX in another thread. Can someone tell me if it's possible to make this work?
Thanks

Goto the attrib editor for your camera and change the depth settings from "furthest visible depth" to "closest visible depth".

Thanks for the reply beaker, but this doesn't seem to make any difference.
As a test I rendered out a sphere twice, once with the camera set to furthest visible, the other with it set to closest visible. Then I moved the same sphere back a bit, and loaded the previously rendered images in as image planes. Again I tried rendering with both closest-visible and farthest visible, and it still wouldn't work properly! Is there something else I'm missing?
Thanks

sorry, misread your question.
Your rendering in maya or prman?

either way, it be faster to just comp it in post.

Therein lies the problem. I don't mind comping in Shake, but I'm trying to render Maya's fire effect over geometry rendered in PRMan. I think this probably isn't going to be possible and I'll have to do all the rendering in Maya...bumbum
