hi guys!
Great challenge CGTalk!
As my 2d drawing skills sucks i decided to make a 3d previz for my scene. I'm making Alexandria (the 2nd chamber if i'm not wrong). I didn't read the book, just the description given by CGTalk, i hope that i will not drive too far from what is describet in the book. This is just a wip previz, lots of things will be changed in the final image. The beauty of the final image will consist (i hope) in the detalis and overall felling given by the greateness of the city.

Good luck to everyone!

Thanks guys, glad you like it. Unfortunately I had little time this week to work at this challenge and too little time to give feedback to other contestants (sp?) but I hope that next week I’ll be more active.

Now, what I’ve done so far you can see bellow, anyway a lot is still to be done or finished like the two statues, i'm not sure about them, about the shape... in the previz I used people but now I’m thinking that maybe is better to use something more abstract so that it will not take the attention away from the city. I still have to think about this.

What I still need to do for this part:
- water - I have to find a way to make the ripples procedurally so I can animate them
- fishes
- flowers that have fallen form the tree in the water and on the grass that surrounds the trees
- the main road
- finish the 2 statues and make the rest of 4 that are positioned lower...

C&C are more than welcomed! Good luck everyone!

Very nice update man... Quite inspiring, do you mind me asking what program you're using for this? 3ds max? maya? lightwave? softimage? something like that?

As for your dilema with the procedural water, maya has great tools for that all built in and if you're not using maya, something like 3 or 4 layers of animated noise / smoke maps with differenct sizes and speeds of animation make a great random effect that won't show as repeated, then you can just animate it flowing in a directing by... say... mapping the water texture to a cylindrical uvw and animate it rotating slowly. Then of course add some particles and stuff for any spray etc as it comes off the top of the tube and when it hits the bottom.

Hope that helped or at least gave you some ideas of where to head with it

Thanks iNcurSioN, glad you like it.
I'm working with softimage XSI so i don't have a fluid simulator, i made the water using a mix of different procedural maps like noise and clouds...

Unfortunately i had little time to work for EON challenge until now, here is a update on the entrance.
